it's crazy how much evermore hits different after you've experienced the context of what was happening in her life at the time and what has happened since then. I notice new things every time I listen that just makes me go OHHHHHH!

still trying to catch up on my downtime... evermore is a no skip for me!!

Just personal interpretation on the broader theme: I have seen the term "champagne problems" used like "first-world problems." in this case, in my view, it refers to the narrative that mental health issues are only a problem for those who can "afford" to have them. From the lines "what a shame she's fucked in the head" to the joke about how the dorm used to be a madhouse, so it was made for her [the narrator] because of its history as a place where people with mental health issues were housed. I don't think it has anything to do with Joe proposing but they did write it together.

Abbra

She wrote Champagne Problems about Gilmore Girls, Rori & Logan... She was watching it during lockdown!

You’ve got matching hoodies I love it

Joe doesn’t have any sisters

Sometimes I break down time into how many all too well 10 minute version it would be. And I will put it on repeat 🤣🤣🤣

I agree so much with this! Every writer uses facets of their own life in their writing. It's just that the whole world isn't waiting to pick them apart. The only way she was able to get people to pay attention to the music was to call Folklore/Evermore complete works of fiction.

As Taylor has evolved she’s changed from an auto-biographical single storyline perspective to a mix of fiction but with elements of her own experiences and feelings from different times in her life. Taylor has become a lot more complex in her song-writing, even more so then she leads us to believe. She has “fictional” songs that are inspired by things like the Gilmore Girls to the Netflix movie Someone Great, and she’s of course created fictional characters such as Betty/James/Augustine etc.. but when you think about it, those songs and others are real feelings she’s pulled from similar situations she’s been in, and in many cases it’s not always 1 song = one single relationship. Keep in mind it’s hard to live under a public microscope and media will always pick her apart so it’s easier to present songs as work of fiction and write in this mixed way to protect her sanity when it comes to tough subjects.

Thank you for adding time stamps! 🙏🏻 They’re so helpful!! ☺️ And thank you both for all of this, you’re content is some much needed positivity in my life right now 🫶🏻🫶🏻

just some clarity for evermore: we don’t really know/there’s only speculation, but last week Jack confirmed on instagram that “You’re Losing Me” was written in December 2021 and Taylor said in her TIME interview that her and Travis had been dating longer than we thought so the timeline of her and Joe is definitely far different than what the public thought/we saw. Not saying this confirms evermore and folklore are autobiographical (please no one yell at me) but we also do now have reasons to believe they’re more personal than we thought originally.

I haven’t been able to join the live streams in a couple of weeks! I am so happy I can catch up on here. The Champagne Problems commentary had me laughing out loud. It was just what I needed after a tough few weeks. Love you, guys!

Really enjoyed the evermore reaction and super excited for you to continue with that album! Definitely a favourite of mine! But I have to say, it kills me just a wee bit when you guys turn off the song before it actually ends-- there is a little piano bit at the very end of Champagne Problems that I adore and both times you've reacted to the song you've missed it. Just a tiny detail, but worth the extra couple seconds, I think.

Hey guys, I know alot of reactors really loved getting to go through Lady Gaga's discography. She's got a lot of lore in her career, not as much as Taylor, but there's layers to what her music is about and how she reinvents herself. I hope you read this and consider doing her albums!

Ooo Kesha The Rainbow album?? I think they’d rock with it, especially if we make sure they know the backstory

Michelle S

Ceilings was my top song on wrapped this year 😅

Amanda

I might be the only person who wants this but I wouldn't be mad if kesha got added to the wheel lol

April Green
