I don't totally fault them because it's supposed to feel like a completely inexplicable ability at first, and the thing of seeing your future self was a big red herring.

2020-03-14 19:46:20 +0000 UTCI'm not trying to be mean but I can tell they watch a whole lot of anime if they think the boss is going to pull some "Ahah don't you feel bad now that you misinterpreted my incredibly sinister actions?" shit with regards to cutting off Trish's hand. Araki don't play like that. It was immediately clear to me that he cut her hand off solely because buccellati was holding it, and would thus notice if it were suddenly ripped away, potentially exposing the boss. The act of severing the hand is symbolic of how little he cares for the human life it is connected to. And considering how paranoid he is about his identity being revealed it makes total sense he would want to make sure he was completely safe and had time to confirm who he was actually killing. There are times when it makes sense to trust the logic the characters in the story are putting before you!

(I don't think it ever happens again after part 3, right?) I love how they had the same sinking feeling in their chests that I did when bruno decided to go after the boss. Very interested to see them understand the full implications of this ability next episode. (they have no idea what's going on just yet, and aren't focusing enough on the word "Erased") EDIT: Their idea for how the story would continue with buccellati dead makes no sense, lol. It's such an Anime type thing, of the main characters wasting time while the villain knows who they are and wants them dead. The entire conflict they're envisioning is compressed entirely into the Boat Scene, and it makes so much more sense for it to be a quick thing with no second chances to decide whose side you're on.
