I know I should not be surprised, but the pushback on social media sites (such as Reddit) regarding the *notion* that the Nukes should not have been dropped is disconcerting. The age old tale that it was a "necessary evil" has been propagandised to the point that people cannot fathom anything else, or is it that people don't want to deal with the implication that it was unnecessary?

2023-08-02 05:50:57 +0000 UTCWhen I visited the sobering memorial in Hiroshima in 2019, I knew nothing about this other than the narrative given throughout my childhood and young adulthood in the American education system. To grasp the perspective from the opposing end of the war was something I couldn’t have prepared for, and I felt a cold and silent weight upon me as one of the only Americans in the room. It left me with a sense of shame for the actions of my country as well as confused resentment over the fact that the narratives on both ends were so drastically different from each other that there had likely been propaganda and/or lies from one or both sides about what happened, and that it wasn’t until I went to Japan at 27 that I finally heard about the Japanese perspective those decades ago. Thank you for the truly informative and entertaining video, I’ve just discovered your channel and am happy to be supporting it.
