At the start of a business, obsessively staring at your cash balance is probably the more relevant way to manage the business. Eventually you’ll need to think in terms of accrual accounting - in other words, some of these cash outflows went towards inventory, which is an asset until it’s sold (at which point it is expensed). Like Maya said, the more inventory you buy in one month means you’ll probably have to buy less the next month (unless you’ve moved through your inventory, which would be a good thing if sold at full price). That cash fluctuation in inventory purchases shouldn’t distort your true profitability (how much did you sell - how much did those sales cost + how much labor and rent did you spend plus other things consumed in the month). You should also probably allocate some portion of your charms to marketing expense vs COGS since you are talking about taking a loss there bc it’s could generate word of mouth. So on and so forth.
