Derek's gaze shifted from the girlfriend to the empty room, his body rigid with pent-up frustration. His life outside these walls – the gym, mountain biking, the thrill of NBA games – was a stark contrast to the monotony and predictability he came home to. Katherine, with her boyish clothes, idiotic toxic hair and gentle ways, once his haven, now felt like a cage.
I'll be at my fucking place!" he snapped. "Make me some scrambled eggs and zucchini, why don't you? Or have you already fed all the fucking eggs to your precious sugar kitties?" With that, Derek slammed the door behind him, the sound echoing through the apartment like a gunshot.
