...Derek's gaze flicked with annoyance to Kate's hair, the wild, toxic colors clashing horribly with the mundane surroundings of their apartment. The small ring in her nose, an addition he found particularly grating, seemed to mock him with its glint.
In a fit of frustration, Derek swept up an empty plastic bottle from his sport bag and hurled it toward the couch, the hollow sound of it bouncing off the fabric doing little to quell his anger. "I can't deal with this shit every day, Kate! Your heart bleeds for every stray that crosses your path, but what about us? What about what I need?"
"Great, another fucking day in the cat...sta's paradise," he sneered, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he surveyed the cluttered apartment, a veritable zoo thanks to Kate's bleeding heart for strays.
Her innocence, once charming, now felt like a goddamn anchor, dragging down his desires. Derek craved something fiery, a partner who could match his intensity, be fucking sexy, and set his blood boiling with desire. But all he got was her goddamn saintly compassion for every stray that crossed her path.
He had tried, for fuck's sake, he had tried to get her to see, to understand his needs. But it was like talking to a fucking wall. Kate, in her bubble of compassion and morbid naivety, seemed blind to his burning desires, deaf to his pleas for something... more.
