So a little bit more info on this new character here. He's clearly a chuunibyo, aka someone who has the "eigth-grader syndrome" where you try to act all mysterious and cool and think you have superpowers. It's a pretty common trope in anime. It's also very common to try and speak in the way he is talking, using big words and antiquated language and saying corny/cringe likes like "I am the one who hunts the evil that hides in the darkness" or whatever lol. Also the way he "spoke" when he opened the scroll was very similar to the way they act in Kabuki theater, very dramatic and almost singing-like way of speaking and drawing out your words. It was clearly too difficult for him and he gave up. xD He does seem to have some psychic powers though, based on how he was able to vaguely sense the location after a few tries and also was able to see them. Also what I can remember from watching a few different shows over the years with demons/yokai in it, I think I remember that there's something called the Hundred Demon Parade that's usually happening during Halloween, because that's when the "veil" between the spirit realm and our world is the thinnest and that usually causes the demons/yokai to get free and rampage around. Something like that.
