i watched Live Aid on tv as a kid. I remember Queen killed it. Its actually what made me a fan of Queen. But the footage for the film was coordinated nearly perfectly to the real footage.. I think there's a video on youtube with both side by siade. They did a great job with it. Watched this film in Imax, my wife and I had had tears it was like being there for live aid it was incredible. Although the real show had a few extra songs in it. But the movements etc were all the same. And Freddie didn't know he had AIDS until 87 long after this show. I'm thinking they had to kinda wrap up the story to fit in a movie so they did it this way. nonetheless, we all know the story of what happened. However, that being said not sure why they made it out like the band hadn't' been together and got back for Live Aid. In actuality they had already been back together and was finishing a tour when they did Live Aid.
