Agreed. Donald O’Conner was an icon. They all were. Gene Kelly was one of my first celeb crushes, and Debbie Reynolds is just, well, adorable Debbie Reynolds.

If you guys are doing musicals, I'd HAVE to recommend Moulin Rouge. One of my favorite movies of all time

Another great musical to react to would be Singin’ in the Rain. One of the best musicals of all-time, and one of the best comedies of all time as well.

Oh wow Andrew, this is your first musical?! Wow, well this is the most amazing start to musicals, I hate Joker 2 was your 2nd, but hey, at-least you’re starting at the absolute best before going… there lol
but there is an amazing middle ground for you to explore. I would recommend LaLa Land 👍🏿
Also, just a former theater actor’s perspective, but the thing with musicals is that the emotion building in a scene leads to a song to express those emotions. But because its a song, it can make some people stop paying attention to the words during the songs and then miss plot points that are important to the overall story.
Just some advice as you continue watching musicals 🙏🏾

In my opinion, this is Bob Fosse's second-best (maybe even third-best) musical, which is why I'm going to recommend "Cabaret." I will always recommend it even to people who don't like musicals; the movie won 8 Oscars. love the reaction 🩷🩷🩷

The hungarian lady was not guilty, in Cell Block Tango, all the ladies when telling their stories had red silks, hers was white. This is a perfect translation from stage to screen, but thats why you should always have theatre people directing musicals, they understand choreography.

- The lady who speaks to Roxie when she gets to prison is Chita Rivera. Original Broadway actress for Chicago and played Velma.
- Yes, the Hungarian lady is the only innocent one.
- Richard Gere and Catherine Zeta Jones were actually broadway/west end dancers in the beginnings of their careers.

I love this movie, but I do just love musicals. In case you don’t see my YouTube comment, basically translated, the Hungarian lady says the police accused her (and her lover) of killing her husband, but that it’s not true, she’s not guilty. She’s the only one that was innocent but due to the language barrier she couldn’t explain or defend herself. In the song, she literally just keeps saying, ‘uh, uh, not guilty’. It’s almost the only English she knows. It’s very sad.
If you haven’t seen it, Renee Zellweger (and a bunch of 90s actors) was also in Empire Records when she was just starting out. She gets to sing in that, too, with Coyote Shivers. It’s more of an alt-rock soundtrack and not a musical but it’s fun.
Also, if you don’t mind the frenetic energy of this, Moulin Rouge is a great one if you haven’t watched it. Baz Luhrmann almost at his finest (in my humble opinion, his finest is still Strictly Ballroom but it’s just my opinion and I love a lot of his movies)
