The idea behind this design is both, combining old tales and new urban legends together as one. Like Yokai mixed with stuff like the Ring or Teke teke.

and also of course, the idea of two spirits haunting one form, and using it to travel, etc

Body ghost - I think the story relating to them is that they are a scornful wife/widow, set on going after all who may of wronged them. I think her nickname would be “Eiga Okusan” which is basically Film wife, being dubbed that just due to how elegant she looks. Similar to object Yokai, she’s made up of an assortment of old technology to form a body. Which brings me to the second ghost

Screen ghost - Their story is more modern, far more internet centric and probably has more specific rules like ”if you call this number 5 times she’ll come for you” something along those lines. As I see it the ghost inside the screen was already haunting or come to haunt there. Basically combining the two. So the face you see is actually the second spirit, she’s sleeping. I think physically she only really comes out when Eiga is in trouble or injured

Overall I think it’s a fun dynamic and in time maybe I’ll add more to them seeing I don’t have real names for them both yet. I do adore their design though, especially the patterns on their Kimono
