I wish we got to see Reed again too 😔

Japril >>>>>>> love them through the good and bad times

Amy

This episode is gold to me, I love the constant rewinding to really see Japril and their story. I feel like I definitely side with them both after losing Samuel but it was a very complicated thing from the beginning with them not really respecting each other’s values. When I found out she was pregnant at the end, I was shocked. I was like here we go again… this was definitely one of my top episodes in terms of acting and how it was laid out.

I completely agree. I don't think it would have been realistic for them to write April dealing with it well. I like how they handled it, I just disagree with people (nobody here specifically just generally) who frame the issue as if they both considered one another equally because they didn't. I completely love the way it was written and acted though...I just think people talk about it weird sometimes lol

Scanning through the comments I didn’t see anyone mention the tiny scene with April asking Jackson to come with her when she went back the second time. And then the second scene was him missing the flight (and not joining her again even though initially he was going to do it). I think that’s a pivotal juncture where they may have worked through some of it without the added resentment Jackson felt about her choosing to go back again and leave him there again… it wasn’t quite that straightforward. But I echo many of the comments here that they both had valid reasons for feeling how they felt. Ultimately I do like the message that it’s not one choice that weakens a relationship… it does happen over time… it is cumulative. It’s just so hard for us to see that when we look back - often getting more stuck on the moments that maybe hurt MOST rather than the little things that accumulated or contributed to repeated arguments patterns. I’ve always been a big fan of Japril - rooting for them to find their way despite their fundamental differences as people… because there really was so much chemistry and love there. But yessss Shonda be messy af.

Bridget

I definitely think the way April went about it was real shitty to Jackson but I also don't think that April was capable of being what Jackson needed, no matter how badly he needed it. Shonda wrote this super realistically and I actually appreciated that they didn't just get over Samuels death like they have with other deaths.

Helen Moore

I completely agree with this. You can't pour from an empty cup so until April dealt with here grief there was nothing she could do for Jackson. And because April needs to channel her grief into an action or purpose just sitting with Jackson wasn't going to help her. There is a reason why couples who lose a child are at risk of divorce cause if you having clashing grieving styles it could build resentment and growing apart. And I feel this is more like a plot hole, but April got home around New Years and we've been told multiple times that interns come in July which we saw in the finale. So she was home for 6 months before she talked about going back. What in the world were they doing for 6 months, just not communicating? She was there and with him and it was a great time for Jackson to verbalize his feelings and needs. (again probably just a plot hole but still) I saw on this talk show a saying that every time something your partners says or does bothers you and you don't address it, you are laying a brick between the two of you and you don't want to wake up and realize you've laid so many bricks you've built a wall you can't get over. By the time he gave that ultimatum the wall was already up and even if she did stay he would've have been waiting on that one thing to prove what he already decided in his head, that they weren't going to work.

Crystal

The thing for me is I kind of get where Jackson was coming from because, in his mind, it's like he compromised and she didn't. She went, and then she stayed. He supported her going and made it clear that he needed her to come home and be with him AFTER SHE HAD BEEN OVER THERE for the agreed-upon amount of time, and she didn't. Like, he tried to give her what she needed, and she did not try to give him what he needed, and that's where I have an issue with people framing it like it's equivalent. He took her stuff into account; she never even really considered his.

Lina D

It's such a double-edged sword when it comes to April's decision to leave. I think she did NEED to what she did to be able to live with herself and survive and Jackson did NEED her too. So, it's not just a simple "April should have stayed cause Jackson needed her to" or "April left because it was best for her and Jackson should understand that". Because one way or another one of them would have been hurt and struggling; with how Shonda wrote it, she chose Jackson to be hurt and for April to get what she needed and for that to be the break off point of their relationship. Whereas if April stayed, she would probably have been in a depressed state most of that time, Jackson would have continued to try to work out their feelings about what happened. April probably wouldn't have been able to heal and recover and eventually it would start a similar fight, and they'd get divorced that way.

Yass, Shondra is messy and loves to play with our emotions. I love this episode even though for me I really don’t love a disjointed TL, I’d rather start from the beginning and move forward or start at the end and go back linearly. I did love the episode though as a whole, I remember when it was shown live it was advertised on twitter as Japril The Movie. The twist at the end was fantastic

Skylizzels

Perioddd on that football is for Sundays lol

Ha'ane Rose 🦋

Your reaction is gold, I just can't. Shonda, you a messy Hefer LMBO I can't.

AprilDawn

I am the biggest Japril fan 🥹😍

Marie-Soleil Dobie

I know I'm in the minority, but I often skip this episode. The Japril drama is just too annoying for me 😂I see a couple like that I thank god I'm single! Though, Jesse and Sarah are amazing and they make it bearable.

Lauren

It’s crazy to me that people were telling you that season 12 wasn’t good, when episodes like the Penny dinner party, Meredith attack, and this one with the “Japril” divorce/pregnancy reveal have stuck in my memory all these years. Shonda really said let me make you feel all the “Japril” feels this episode. Clearly they never had a perfect marriage but they obviously loved each other deeply. After that baby loss their relationship just seemed to get more and more damaged with everything they did, rather than healing together. The writers really took us through the journey of seeing the start of “Japril” to then the beginning of the end with the loss of Samuel and the damage it caused, to then just drop the pregnancy news on us after they’ve officially signed divorce papers They’re so messy 😭

iamcecy

I think because of all the time jumps around season 11, they were married for over 3 years

Bloodchronism

Absolutely ICONIC episode. This was recieved by insane praise, deservesly so me thinks. SUCH a good episode, such a complex situation, such fantastic characters!!

Bloodchronism

Your face at the end was priceless. Also, I love that episode even if my Japril heart is hurting rn.

Shin Yukina

Shonda is indeed a master at traumatizing us all.

Although I see both sides in this particular storyline, I tend to lean more toward April's side because Jackson never seems to acknowledge that while this did both lose Samual, April went through something very different from him. He will never be able to understand what it feels like to carry a life inside your body, grow that life every day, feel it moving inside you, give birth to that life, and then lose it right after. I understand him being upset about April staying away and I also understand her needing to go away, and in the end I don't think this was anybody's fault, it was just a heartbreaking situation that ultimately their relationship didn't survive. I also know that a lot of people are mad at April for not telling Jackson about the pregnancy before the signing, but if she did and he decided not to go through with it, it only would've been for the baby and not for April or their marriage, which he made very clear he wanted to end, and that's not a good reason to stay with somebody when you can just as easily co-parent while not together.

Avalon Perry

The timeline was confusing but I'm glad they showed us some scenes that were never shown before -- like what happened when they eloped. April's line gets me every time -- “You can’t heal every wound and that’s okay. I have to believe it’s okay. I have to believe that even if something seems like it cannot be fixed, it doesn't mean it's broken."

Tin 빅뱅사랑해

Jackson’s expressive eyes when they sign 😢😢😢

Radha Karia

Absolutely one of my favorite episodes of GA ever. So well acted by both of them. And the episodes formula of rewinding back was really brilliant, filling in some gaps in this couple's history. I love that this episode could have easily be just closing a chapter, but last scene with April opens up a whole lot of a potential mess for the characters. I really think Sarah and Jesse 'got' the characters and their screen chemistry (and I not mean only romantic, I think their fight scenes are just as electric).

Sikozu

Shonda really said “f you” to the Japril fans with this one.

Matty Ryan

“On the inside” HAD ME LAUGHING OUT LOUD LMAO

Serenity La’sandra

It’s so hard because you get both sides. I understand why she needed to get away, but also understand why he needed her to stay. 💔 and him wanting to then move on from the marriage, and her wanting to stay in it.. both are valid. Think the overall wish is that it just hadn’t gotten to this point, that they didn’t lose the baby. Just changed everything. I get it tho. Moral of the story… Shonda is just evil 🤣🤣

Serenity La’sandra

That goofy dance Jackson does is engraved in my head.🤣🤣 also when re watching Grey’s I usually don’t rewatch this episode because I don’t like how the timeline is so I kind of skipped around today but yeah lol had to comment on Jackson’s dance

m

They got married in season 10 but because season 11 was two years in their universe, I think they were married close to three years. Which is actually longer than the average greys marriage 😂

Bradey Bononcini

“Who died” 🤣

Serenity La’sandra

Your face at the end is the only reason that I could get through this episode 😂 I can’t stand seeing daddy Jackson sad.

Ariel

That ending 💔 starting your reaction now! Can’t wait to see if

Serenity La’sandra
