This is one of my top favorite episodes of the season directly behind the 2-part season finale. Especially during that last 15 minutes with that moment between Angel and Buffy. And Spike is back!

No one noticed for a bit at first til someone raised their hand and said "I think you spelt shirt wrong." The whole class started laughing.

The "locker monster" (poor Xander), how Angel is trying to scrub the love out of himself at the end of the episode (lol), plus all the ways Angel taunts Spike (you just know Spike's going to kick his ass some day, lol), and the way Druscilla continues to be completely bonkers. (She cracks me up.) On top of that, you've got this lovely little side bit of sweetness where Willow gives Giles the charm necklace that belonged to Miss Calendar, and Giles acknowledges that the rage-filled ghost isn't Jenny. A little bit of heartbreak, but I think perhaps that moment of admission to Willow may help him to move forward as well.

I just find the premise so interesting, and I love the reversal, with Angel taking the role of the female teacher and Buffy taking the role of the pain-filled student. She doesn't talk about it much, but it's clear with this episode how much Buffy blames herself for what happened to Angel and all the violence he's brought since then, all because he lost his soul being with her. And it's not her fault -- she didn't mean to, she didn't know it would happen, just like James didn't mean to kill his teacher. So on that deeper level, Buffy feels like she needs forgiveness in order to move forward, but can't because she can't forgive herself. So fascinating!

2023-01-31 03:54:14 +0000 UTCHoo boy! We're getting real close to the season 2 finale now! Yeah, this was an interesting episode. Not my favorite, but also not my least favorite either. That ending with Spike is always great to see. You'll just have to wait and see what happens next!
