Time away was good. Just before we left I wasn't feeling like I was at the peak of my creativity for the series, but the time away gave me a lot of time to think of new ideas and ways to shoot! I think these breaks are one of the only ways I can stay creative.
Shooting with Cat when I got back was fantastic. Its been years since we had an opportunity to work together. Last time I was inbetween projects and really just doing portraits, so I was excited to have our paths cross, while actually working on something that I believe will someday be a pretty big project.
I shot these with my Alien Bee 800, 60 inch soft box pointed into the ceiling, and my Sigma 85mm F1.4. I did switch it up and use my 24-70mm F2.8L as well, which used to be my main lens, but I haven't used it in a little bit. The very first photo in the folder was shot with it. One of the main reasons I don't use the wider lenses for this series is how much more difficult it is to take a photo without having my reflection show up in one of the mirrors. With up to three different mirrors in the room it gets dodgey. Standing back and using longer lenses definitely makes it much easier, but I still find myself bending in very weird ways to avoid showing up, and occasionally having to remove one of my hands, arms, parts of a camera...etc
I hope you enjoy this first set of Temperance now that I am home. I have a bunch more to come!
