When Nicole Vaunt and I first started dating we moved from Philadelphia to Chicago for 6 months. It was starting over from scratch for me. All the work I had done to get my name out there in Philly was completely useless, and I had a hard time booking any shoots pretty much until my last month in town.Because of this I focused mostly on shooting landscapes on the lake. I'd wake up at 4pm, and start getting dressed in my winter clothing, so that I could endure the extreme cold and wind on the beaches. Even then much of the time I'd only last 15-20 minutes after my half hour walk to the beach. It was brutally cold.This fall when I returned to my old neighborhood in Chicago to shoot Shilo I was very excited to have the opportunity to shoot a model along the shore of Lake Michigan. We showed up around sunset and hiked to one of my favorite spots a massive pile of boulders in Edgewater. The golden hour along the the lake shore is an amazing time to shoot. The sun dips below the horizon, but the light is still a fantastic soft glow for at least another half an hour. I shot these using that soft light with my 70-200mm F2.8L lens. Unfortunately Chicago has very strict nudity laws, which made it difficult to do our shoot, while avoiding passers by, but I still loved the results.
