Life on the Road and Glacier National Park on Dropbox

For me all of this is somehow finding a balance between work and play. I think if you take anything you love, and make it your livelihood eventually that love will turn sour. There are days where I just don't want to pick up the camera. There are even more days where spending 14 hours in front of the computer fiddling with images trying to make uniformly edited sets, or perfect prints, or just organizing 20TB worth of photographic images makes me want to stay in bed all day. It seems silly to bitch about doing something you love, but too much of a good thing is still too much of a good thing.

I think this is why I have struggled to find one series, or project to focus on. Three months away from home means finding the perfect mixture of time with models, and time with nature in order to make the trip bearable. When the stress of shooting model after model gets to be too much I'm normally already on my way to a National Park. This trip I managed to fit in quite a few, but after 5 years of not being able to find an excuse to drive 16 hours out of my way, I finally made it back to Glacier.

Glacier is by far one of America's wildest and most beautiful parks. In one day you can be driving perilously along going to the sun road twisting through some of our tallest mountains, and that evening you can be in the glacially carved lakes watching bears and moose eat, and play. The sense of urgency I felt to return here was immense. It is estimated that by as early as 2030 all the glaciers in the park will have melted. A change that great to the ecosystem of the park will undoubtedly cause a huge change in both the flora and fauna of the park as well, so I wanted to get back there before the late stage evidence of these changes began to take hold. Its impossible to say what will happen, but I wanted to be able to photograph the before.

I spent three days there with my buddy Steven (thisnormallife.tumblr.com). We woke up every morning looking for beautiful sunrises, shot all day, and went out for every sunset as well. The raging wild fires in Western Idaho and and Eastern Montana made nearly every day monochromatic, but still it was beautiful.
