Weekly Update - 242 - 10/28/24

So today, I turned on my PC like always.

For the hundredth time, Windows was all like, "HEY LETS FINISH SETTING UP YOUR PC"

I was all like, "can we not? We've done this a hundred times and it's set up exactly how I like it and I'd much prefer you leave everything alone."

Then Windows was like, "NAH ITS COOL BRO THIS IS FUN LETS DO IT. FIRST TELL ME THINGS YOU LIKE SO I CAN SHOVE ADS DOWN YOUR THROAT."

And I'm all like SKIP.

And it's like "WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO RESET ALL YOUR SETTINGS FOR YOU?"

And I'm all like FUCK NO.

And it's all like "ALMOST DONE, HOW ELSE CAN WE SELL YOU SHIT?"

And I'm like, "LEAVE ME ALONE!!!"

So anyway, after all that, OneDrive (which I know I had switched off before today) started trying to back up 80 gigs of files and it threw an error because it didn't like one of my folder names, and that apparently caused everything to slow down to a crawl and/or crash. So I'm fighting with that piece of shit to try and get it to stop doing things so my PC is actually, you know, USABLE. In so doing, I find the place where I can actually disable OneDrive (it was buried beneath like four menus), and I do and in a stunning act of true MICROSOFT BRILLIANCE, it deletes everything off of my Desktop and Documents and a few other places. I guess it assumes that if you don't want to sync your files, you don't need your files! CUZ WHY WOULD YOU.

Among the files deleted were all of my swatches and settings and my license for PainttoolSai. WHICH IS RAGE. Though redownloading my license for Sai is trivial my SWATCHES AND BRUSHES AND SETTINGS ARE NOT. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DRAW, MICROSOFT? HOW?

Anyway I get to a point where I'm about to throw an absolute fucking fit over the whole damned thing, but the story does have a happy ending, because apparently since it's damned near impossible to STOP Microsoft from stealing all of my files to their cloud without my permission, they were all still available for me to reacquire and put back where they belong. It was just a huge pain in the ass and a waste of half a day for me. So thanks Microsoft. Thanks for being only marginally better than paying some jerk to hammer a rusty nail into my eyeball.

Anyway, I just needed to rant about that crap. As with all things like this, venting helps to restore my regular calm emotional state. Because getting mad about something is normal and fine, STAYING mad about it is not, and the latter is entirely within my control. So I'm no longer mad, but I am now wary of placing any more files in any folders that Microsoft wants to steal from. Since they could apparently vanish at any time.

Comic this week? Yes. Despite Halloween shenanigans and a buncha other crap occupying much of this week still, I think I should be able to get this one out by Friday? Y'all are all itching to find out what happens to our poor boy Max, ain't cha? And Reese doesn't want me to delay his meeting any longer.
