I'm writing an Opera ... finally
Added 2025-04-08 06:51:37 +0000 UTCThank you, truly, because of your support — quiet, consistent, and deeply appreciated — I’ve been able to carve out time this month to write. And that is no small thing for a performer who has no sick pay or time in lieu.
Also as a performer with a song out there called cunt gun government grants are not exactly falling into my lap so... here we are !
This opera has been sitting in me for over a year, waiting for a clear window to begin. And now I’ve made that space. Patreon is a huge part of why I’ve been able to do that. Thank you for holding it with me — even (especially) in the early, shapeless stages.
The Procession of the Naked Beggars (working title + logo)
Yes, the logo is temporary. So is the name, maybe. Or maybe not. But the idea is very much alive — evolving and gathering weight each day I sit down with it.
I want to write an opera that is accesible to a general australian audience. This means I want it to be in English so that people can understand it. I want it to tackle modern issues so that it is relevant. I want it to look at womanhood through the lens we see it now.
How I am tackling it
I am doing this intwo prongs - firstly I am writing a manifesto for the opera whichI will also release here in it's entirety. To do that I am studying a few of my favourite feminist texts as well as current event sand statitstics combined with first hand interviews from different women.
I am also writing the first aria: Mother of the Year. I have the hook but not the versus. I would love to finish that and release it here by May 10th 2025 for mothers day.
Right now, there isn’t much to show — because I’m still in it. But I’ll be sharing fragments, images, references, lyrics, sketches, and updates as it grows.
Patreon is not just to get the first glimpses of the end result, it’s the intimate middle that I am here sharing with you.
Thank you for being part of it x
