Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [533]

Mew slowly opened her sleepy eyes and immediately spotted Plusle, hiding behind Hinata, paws covering her cheeks in wary vigilance against August.

“Mew?”

Tilting her head curiously, Mew took a few seconds to realize the situation. Then she immediately floated off August’s head, joining Plusle’s side to issue a stern rebuke toward August.

August: “?”

Mew, whose side are you even on?

Hinata’s eyes sparkled when she saw Mew. “Could this be the legendary… Mew?”

She reached out, tempted to pet her, yet stopped herself halfway, afraid of startling the mythical Pokémon. Instead, she simply admired her with awe from a safe distance.

Noticing Hinata’s admiring gaze, Mew wasn’t shy at all. She proudly puffed out her round belly, full from snacks.

August stared wordlessly. Since when is gaining weight something to be proud of?

But Hinata was entirely captivated by Mew’s charm. “She’s so cute!”

“Mew!” Mew posed heroically, declaring proudly to Plusle that from now on, she’d personally protect her.

Plusle gazed at Mew with admiration shining in her eyes, as if beholding her savior. “Pula~!”

“Mew!” Mew smugly folded her tiny arms—then suddenly froze. Before she could bask in glory for more than two seconds, an invisible psychic hand seized the back of her neck, lifting her effortlessly into the air.

Gardevoir had stepped in, casually picking up the troublesome Mew.

“Mew~!” Mew struggled weakly.

But Mew, who spent all day eating and sleeping, had no chance against Gardevoir. She could only flail helplessly as Gardevoir carried her away in quiet disgrace.

Before leaving, Gardevoir gently glanced back at Plusle, offering a warm and friendly smile.

But that gentle smile froze Plusle’s delighted expression.

“Pu… la?”

Plusle instantly recalled her past experiences—being terrorized by Demon Lord August and his accomplice Demon Lord Gardevoir.

Taking advantage of Plusle’s momentary shock, August’s hand darted out like lightning, pinching Plusle’s cheeks playfully.

Gary, witnessing the scene from the side, finally understood how August developed that incredible speed of his—the same hand speed that let him safely pinch Ash’s Pikachu countless times without getting shocked once.

He’s so fast, the electricity can't even catch up. August’s speed is unbeatable!

August sighed contentedly after successfully pinching Plusle’s soft cheeks.

Perhaps he should ask Professor Oak to research if the electric pouches of Pokémon like Pikachu, Plusle, and Minun actually contained “happiness energy.”

Otherwise, why did squeezing them make him feel so joyful?

Pondering this theory, he took out a box of specially made Pokéblocks for Electric-types, handing them to the disgruntled Plusle. Watching her reluctantly hug the box of treats, rubbing her cheeks and nibbling them tearfully, Hinata sighed helplessly.

“You really haven’t changed at all, August...”

Every time August teased Plusle, it took Hinata ages to console her afterward.

“Alright, let's talk about something serious.” August changed the topic swiftly. “Before you came, President Hisui briefed you, right? You'll be escorting the leader of Team Plasma to the Ranger Union.”

Hinata instantly turned serious. “I was about to ask you that… Why send me alone to escort such an important criminal?!”

Before arriving, Hisui had indeed informed her she would escort the Team Plasma leader, but it left her confused.

“The worst criminals I’ve handled are poachers. Escorting someone this dangerous is beyond my skill set…”

It wasn’t a matter of responsibility, but genuine worry that she'd mess up badly. As a Ranger, she knew all too well how dangerous criminal organization leaders could be.

August simply laughed at her concern. “Relax. It’s completely within your capabilities. This mission is entirely safe.”

“Honestly, if not for formalities, I'd let him report to headquarters by himself.”

Hinata didn’t seem convinced, but August didn't elaborate. “You'll see when you meet him.”

“Now, let me introduce the criminal you'll escort—N.”

Hinata followed August’s gesture to a gentle young man with pale green hair, seated calmly on the sofa, absorbed in a book.

Hearing August, N lifted his head and greeted her warmly. “Are you the specialist from the Ranger Union here to escort me? I’ll be in your care.”

“Huh?!” Hinata stared at N in disbelief. Was this really the leader of Team Plasma?

Since when did criminal masterminds become so polite?

And wasn't he supposed to be a dangerous prisoner? There wasn’t even a single restraint on him. Could August be pulling a prank again?

Considering August’s past record, Hinata couldn’t rule out the possibility.

...

Only after extensive confirmation did Hinata finally accept that this really was N!

August explained the circumstances behind N’s arrest and his future as a Ranger. Once Hinata learned N’s intentions were actually pure, aiming to protect Pokémon but manipulated by others, her attitude softened significantly.

The Ranger Union welcomed anyone genuinely dedicated to protecting Pokémon!

“My name is Hinata, pleased to meet you.”

“No need to be so polite—I’m still technically a prisoner.” N shook his head modestly, then glanced at Plusle perched on Hinata’s shoulder. “Your Plusle needs your attention more right now.”

Hinata quickly turned to Plusle, who puffed her cheeks indignantly due to being neglected. When Hinata tried to comfort her, Plusle stubbornly turned away, radiating an unspoken ultimatum: if you don’t soothe me now, I’ll really get angry!

Hinata hurriedly coaxed Plusle, immediately understanding why August said N would make an excellent Ranger.

His careful observation and sensitivity toward Pokémon emotions were crucial qualities. With time, perhaps N might become a legendary Ranger, second only to August himself.

August completed the official handover paperwork, formally transferring custody of N to Hinata and the Ranger Union.

“Remember to visit us sometime. Everyone misses you!” Hinata reminded warmly.

“Definitely,” August promised.

After Hinata and N left, Gary frowned in confusion. “Why not let Hoopa just teleport them? Wouldn't that be faster?”

Having experienced Hoopa’s teleportation firsthand, he knew just how convenient it was—no matter how far, you could instantly arrive!

Before August could reply, Hoopa angrily shot over, grabbing Gary’s hair and tugging fiercely. “Hoopa tired! Little Gary bad!”

“Ow ow ow! I’m sorry, Hoopa, please let go!” Gary frantically begged, terrified of losing even a single precious strand of his hair—his second most valuable asset after his handsome face.

After pacifying Hoopa, Gary sighed in relief, while August chuckled at Gary’s disheveled state. “Hoopa might be mythical, but it still needs rest. Earlier, teleporting so many legendary Pokémon here already exhausted it. Even capitalists don’t exploit workers that badly!”

Hoopa nodded firmly, agreeing completely.

Gary shot a resentful glare at August. You knew this but didn’t say anything until Hoopa tormented me first, didn't you?

August noticed Gary’s expression and deliberately smiled, silently confirming Gary’s suspicions: You’re exactly right!

Gary was powerless against August’s tyranny. All he could do was quietly record another grudge in his mental notebook:

[During the Plasma arrest, August deliberately withheld info about Hoopa’s exhaustion to see me suffer. Another grudge recorded!]

...

With N sent off, the Plasma incident was essentially concluded, leaving minor cleanup tasks to Alder and the Unova League.

Alder, despite his busy schedule, personally thanked August one last time—though his true intention was something else entirely. “Are you sure you won't reconsider becoming Unova’s Champion?”

August shook his head without hesitation. “International Police suits me better.”

He’d already cleared out the toughest criminal elements from Unova. Why abandon a cushy International Police role just to babysit the League as Champion?

Seeing August’s firm refusal, Alder sighed deeply. “Seems I'll have to stick around a few more years…”

He truly wanted to retire. Although the League hadn’t blamed him for Plasma’s rise, he blamed himself.

“If you have another suitable candidate, let me know…”

August pondered briefly. Candidates weren’t scarce, but who was truly suitable…

“I actually have someone in mind…”

Hearing this, Gary immediately perked up. Suitable Champion candidate? Obviously me!

As the number-two figure in the Kanto branch, the Indigo League Champion, and second only to August himself, Gary straightened his back confidently, trying to draw August’s attention.

But August didn’t even spare him a glance, instead surveying Black, White, Rosa, Giovanni, and finally landing his eyes on Iris—who stood beside Zinnia.

Alder followed August’s gaze. “Iris? Drayden’s praised her endlessly. She's got great potential.” Alder smiled approvingly at Iris. “I look forward to you growing strong enough to take this title from me!”

Iris nearly fainted from happiness, nodding vigorously once she recovered.

Gary felt his pride crumble instantly.

Damned August, ignoring me again!

At that moment, August suddenly turned toward Gary. “What? You have objections to my choice?”

Gary flinched as if seeing a ghost. August’s mind-reading skills were getting ridiculous!

“N-no objections! Iris is perfect!”

“Oh?” August smiled slyly. “Then tell us exactly how she's perfect?”

Gary stammered desperately. “Because Iris is… Drayden’s student?”

He quickly realized how nonsensical that sounded. Sweat began trickling down his forehead under August’s amused gaze.

Gary was thoroughly defeated—again.
