Beginner Blues Guitar Lesson - "Sweet Home Chicago" - Eric Clapton Licks and Tricks

Hello friends,

Welcome to another By Request Song Tutorial. In this lesson, I'll be sharing with you a must know blues guitar song in Robert Johnson's "Sweet Home Chicago." I'll be showing you a simplified take of Eric Clapton's version, as I break down the chord progressions, Intro lick, and a few of Eric's signature guitar tricks. Let's get started!

Hi Rob, I'm trying to learn this version, so joined up to get the tabs. The pdf above only has 3 very short excerpts. Do you have the full set anywhere please? Thx Chris

Hi Rob, this is a fantastic lesson. I've already learned a lot, thank you. However, I still struggle with the timing of the first licks that you introduce at 12:20. Would there be a chance to elaborate on that or add these as tabs to the sheet?

Complete joke. Joined to get the solo tabs, there are none.

So I am currently at the Contributor level. What lever do I need to be at to get the tabs for this.

Rob, I have question- if you use the common turnaround at the end of the 12 bars, do you use it to replace the last 2 bars, the E (6)and B7(2) or just the last bar/ measure of E (2) and B7 (2) or just the last half bar/measure of B7?

Hey Rob, GREAT job on this video but can we dive deeper and revisit this at a more advanced level than just leaving it at a beginners version? This is such a great blues song. I notice you are playing more with the chords than you talk about. Also, I'd like to learn what chords/riffs Clapton is playing while he is playing rhythm. You can tell he is playing something other than a basic bar chord adding the 6th. Thanks

Hi Rob, good job. Just joined the Patreon and looking to get all the tabs for sweet home chicago. the page Ive been on gives 3 but not some of the lead tabs. Is there more tabs to get?

Hi Rob, You are amazing. Thank you again for this awesome video. If possible, can you please also do the Unplugged Version of Eric Clapton's Layla. I'm particularly interested in the Solo. Thanks a tonne again. Love this one.

Well done, interesting lesson. ESPECIALLY your Intro. Very interesting change between the different chords and their different style of playing and the sololicks. Could you do this as a lesson or is there somewhere to find it? I also would pay it separately if you could transcribe that for me. Please contact me.

Hi Rob, I agree with above comments that this is a great lesson. It would be nice to touch on the additional chords that you use and also more on the cool solo and fill licks. Congrats to the Eagles from a Viking fan.

Can we get the tab to your solo?

And one more thing that I have questions on. How to END the song? I mean how to do it cool. SOme tips and tricks here would help quite a lot :)

Hi, Rob. Great lesson! A bit short :( Can you make the full song to sing along? :) There is different style of playing first 4 bars in the 3rd(4,5 I think also) verse. Could you explain these and give some tips on this kind of quiet parts of song.
