Patreon Badges!

Hello everyone! I've gone back through every supporter and have tried to chase up anyone who has ever donated to RA to make sure that everyone has their Patreon Supporter's badge, and I'm certain I will have accidentally missed a few people out. If you don't already have your badge, please message or post either here or on the site and I'll get your badge added.

In other news, I love you guys so much! You've helped make my dream come true, and much more on top. RA is a genuinely inspiri...

Tier 1 expanded

Hi everyone, I have expanded the number of patrons that will be able to access the first tier, I didn't realise it was full! I don't think I'm allowed to retroactively apply the tier to existing patrons (odd) but I'm told there is a way to assign yourself a tier via the dashboard on Patreon. If not don't worry there's no difference between the two, servers are still getting paid for and there's no "tiered" content. Let me know if I can help or if you have any questions. Thanks again for your ...

Continued thanks to the best community in the galaxy

Hey guys, just wanted to say thank-you so much again for your support, I know it's just the same message over and over but RetroAchievements doesn't exist at all without all the dedication, hard-work and financial support you've given to the site. I promise to keep RetroAchievements around for as long as I can, as always with no adverts, no monetisation, no gambling or dodgy incentives, no sponsors - just good clean functionality. You've made this happen and I will continue to make sure RA st...

Tier Restructure!

Hi all,

Thanks to all your contributions, we're about to move to a new server on a faster host! So in order to celebrate, we have decided to simplify our Patreon (which if I'm honest, was a bit of a mess. Sorry)

All patrons are invited to take advantage of the  Super Ultimate 2018 Patreon Sub Tier which requires a (Patreon-required) minimum donation of $1/month. I don't want to discriminate financially, it doesn't seem a very classy thing to do, so any contributions...

GDPR and Site Updates

Hey, everyone else is doing it!

We take data protection seriously at RetroAchievements, and we have in place steps to improve our security, including adding https, and improving the server hashing algorithm to better store your data (see https://github.com/RetroAchievements/RAWeb/issues/99).

We don't currently gather explicit consent on RA, so please if you don't wish to be bothered, we won't b...

Cheaters!

Hi guys! One of the biggest problems plaguing RetroAchievements is the occurrence of cheaters. RA is not a closed platform. It's not unthinkable for a hacker to edit and build the entire toolset and award themselves every single achievement. Or they could simply inject their own packets to the server. However the hard-working admin have an squad put together via Discord who are weeding out the most obvious and clear cases of cheating, and have been discussing the best motivations for dealing wit...

September 2017 Bill

It looks huge, but it's not really! The 50% purchase for 12 months of the t2.medium server is in there, and as a result the actual running costs are LOWER than previous months, so don't worry!

Fixes going in today

Should help patch up some of the issues caused by the migration to the new bigger, better servers. Old server officially retired.

Server Upgrade Complete...

-ish. We are now on a t2.medium rather than a t2.small. This gives us twice the CPU, twice the memory and a fresh new start on a fresh new server. There are a few teething issues I'll be fixing now. Attached is the old server struggling with CPU credits, to the point of not being able to serve or host *Anything*. It shot up as soon as I took it offline (naturally)

August 2017 Billing Statement

Billing is a touch cheaper this month since we managed to block users from hammering the server. Looking to switch over to a slightly more powerful server, but offsetting the cost by paying for it all up front. Upgrade forthcoming

High-use issue fixed?

Looks like we've finally found the culprit, fetching ./RA_Integration.dll over and over was causing issues (old clients). Looking forward to slightly cheaper bandwidth over the next few months.

Bump in bandwidth use in May 2017

Just to clarify - there was a bump in traffic (and cost) for some days in May, I've isolated it to being some very old clients that got stuck in an update loop, requesting RAIntegration.dll over and over 4-5 times a second, essentially draining the site of bandwidth. These holes have been patched now (we no longer serve the dll at the root, it's now in /bin), and I'll absorb the additional cost (as it was my mistake), which works out to be around 385gb, costing around $35.14. The total cost for ...
