So, time for my biggest criticism of all: sex in the morning before urinating. I'm sorry, but a good morning pee ranks right up there with orgasms (especially at 63yo) and even at 20, no pee, no fun. I will accept "Space Magic" for everything else, but a good pee at 63yo beats most orgasms. Just wait, you'll agree with me boys.

If John had been a normal person Jade would’ve looked exactly like Alyssa with blood and fluids in her system to make her indistinguishable from the real thing. It could be because it is something Tefler decided to not deliberately point out, leaving it as a background task, kinda like the Invictus getting refueled and the groceries being loaded every time they dock at a friendly port. Or it could be because they're Mael's creations and he decided that they shouldn't have that suffer from that particular side effect of being fed. All it really boils down to is Space Magic.

It’s the end of the tech line for the Tachyon Lances, a Nova Lance on steroids and significantly more mobile in its firing arc. Well, the Starforge is actually in full scale use by the Trankarans though. When Niskera visited her father there (he's the head forgemaster) she noted that for the first time in ages that they were being used to full capacity.

Thank y'all for correcting me! Physics is not something I formally studied. Since e^2=(mc^2)^2 +(pc)^2, would not all energy weapons have mass, if you look at it? Well, at that point quantum mechanics and relativity crash so...back to the space opera. As for me, I am glad Tefler spelled it out. Obviously there's plenty of other stuff like "new elements" that I should stop obsessing.

Progenitor ships are immune to laser weapons but are equipped with tachyon lances to carve through thrall ships black armor. Kirrik neutron beams also damage CA armor.

Tachyon lances are different than beam lasers because tachyons have mass and can punch/burn through armor. Lasers are just energy light particles and CA absorbed energy particles.

Perhaps…it is a venerated shrine, holy ground considered sacred to the Trankaran’s, rebuilt as a room of worship where the Great Maker did all of his important work while residing with them. That was never a plot hole, really. If 10x shaped CA was invulnerable to laser weaponry, and 35x shaped CA got trashed by an energy weapon, it stands to reason that said energy weapon was not a laser. Apparently enough people were not making that connection that Tefler felt the need to spell it out. Lasers are energy weapons but not all energy weapons are lasers. The Nova Lances, for example, are energy weapons but are not lasers.

One plot hole got fixed. How the raptor which by deca (10) shaping was made invulnerable to beam weapons was trashed at 35x. Mael'nerk used physical ordnance wrapped in shield busting energy. That had been introduced before 146 but attention is brought to that when they "requisition" one of his old guns.

I have a slightly different take. I believe that Mael' destroyed his own soulforge because he did not want to kill any more Maliri. He had totally reformed, I think, we will discover in the end. That's why he invented the white metal which we have seen now. However the Star Forge will be the correct beast to make things it will be missing one vital piece which is only known in the folklore of the Trankarans, and our red head will have a better version of, once see sees all the bits in one place, so a visit has to happen! How the heck is that going to get squeezed in with all the other bits and pieces which have to (are due to) happen!

@TF007- good point about the Lallenori hackers and Celphna. @Brian - I suspect that the Trankarans' natural gifts with metallurgy allows them to make some use of the Starforge, but putting someone like Alyssa, John or Athena in it with a pile of onyxium will produce something pretty special.

I do have to wonder: if the Star Forge was ‘lovingly restored to its former glory’ as defined in chapter 107, did the Trankarans just overlook what might have been psychic infusion tech laying about broken on the floor, or did they restore those pieces too and don’t know how to use them properly given their species seems psychically deficient?

It seems to me that it'd be reasonable (at Calara & Dana's prodding) for John to reach out to Niskera to see if any wreckage of the soulforge can be found in the Trankaran system that Rahn destroyed. Seems probable now that ancient Trankarans salvaged it and brought it to Trankara where it's now known as the Starforge.

Mael would want to know if any Thrall vessels that weren't his crossed into his domain, because they would be the vanguard of an invasion, long before the Progenitor showed up with his dreadnought. I would imagine Mael's sensor net has picked up all of the traffic in the region, but the girls filtered for just Progenitor dreadnoughts, so that's what they saw instead of all of the traffic in the region.

The sensor net was set to detect Progenitor Dreadnoughts, not simple Thrall vessels. Why would it pick up the thrall scout ships? Mael'nerak never worried about tracking all of his Maliri thrall vessels, of which there were many, so why would he care about the harmless - to him - thrall vessels of other Progenitors? Remember, the technology in the thrall vessels was and is harmless to the Progenitors themselves. They're meant to kill other, lesser beings, not Progenitors.

.35: I hadn't noted anyone else mentioning a misplaced name, 'Larn' when you should've written 'Rahn'. This was on page 4 of 33 in Word, in a conversation between Tashana and Calara. They were discussing the Shroud and whether it would be dangerous for John to venture into Xar'azaith controlled territory... you'll find it. Wonderful 1st draft!
