Massive Performance Improvement to Oh So Hero!
Added 2019-08-12 00:51:34 +0000 UTCOh So Hero build 0.10.003 is available for 64 & 32-bit Windows with a massive performance improvement!
Here's a list of fixes:
- Proper image compression now greatly reduces RAM usage and loading times
- Lono'e (brown dinos) now get close enough to kick and grab
- Fix block locations in Treewish Forest
- Remove invisible platform in Sheo Islands Beach (hot dog cart removed temporarily)
For this month, we're planning one more bug fix build for the Pre Edition, then we'll be working on the Patron-exclusive build with new content! Ribbit~

Thanks for the bug report! We'll definitely look into fixes for these issues. Would you be able to share some of your computer specs with us in order to help us diagnose the issue?

2019-08-14 04:41:54 +0000 UTCOur plan is to have a quality setting for textures that will allow more powerful machines to run animations with lossless compression. It will take time, but we want to make it happen!

2019-08-14 04:37:51 +0000 UTCBug report: the ground textures in Treewish Forest didn't load for me, at one point the game loaded a bunch of Joe's sprites and I couldn't move while the FPS display went haywire (though this fixed itself when I reloaded the level) and there was a foreground texture in Cam's cabin that made it impossible to see the Ass Masters book so I had to jump around blindly for it Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/pp3ftgV

2019-08-12 17:50:30 +0000 UTCAnyways, I've just checked this build out and I must say - it is a rather impressive improvement! I mean, yes, the game still consumes a ridiculously large amount of RAM for such game, but it's been reduced so much that even those who have 8Gb RAM can now play it. And that deserves respect! Great job, guys, as expected of you! Keep it up!

2019-08-12 13:44:27 +0000 UTCSo the game is definitely less resource intensive, and loads MUCH faster, which is a great accomplishment, don't get me wrong. Buuuut, lossless compression this is not, as the sprites are now much blurrier, and the colors are washed out. I'm not saying ditch the compression, as it clearly makes a world of difference in performance, which is great for people on less than stellar systems. However I'm curious if you guys plan on maybe having an option in a future (or at least final) release for people on systems that can handle it, to use the less compressed sprites. They're very well crafted and clearly had a ton of care put into them, so it would be a shame to see them mangled by the compression algorithm, even when they don't need to be for every system.
