Another story, part memoir, about another passion of mine, model airplanes. Here are some rough pages. Will people be interested in this? We'll see.
The hobby seems to be almost exclusively male, and usually an experienced pilot takes the plane up and lets the student take beginning steps until he's ready to solo. I thought the mentor relationship interesting story wise, almost a father / son relationship. That I "came of age" as a teen at the end of the sixties, with classic differences from a conservative father, adds more levels to the story.
I read Mark Twain's "Life on the Mississippi," with a young Sam Clemens being tutored as a steamboat pilot by a crusty riverboat captain, and I saw similarities...
