I think the idea that mandatory service is gonna help young ppl connect and feel some purpose in the world is extremely naive and dumb, to the point where I don't want to hear more from this person any more. People nowadays are not feeling alienated because they're lazy, they're feeling that way because now more than ever it's extremely transparent how corrupt our government is and how stacked it is against the average person. I don't think being forced to help act out whatever horrible shit is on the agenda when you're young is gonna help you get away from that alienation. Volunteering your time to a good cause is admirable and would help provide the purpose he's talking about. I don't at all trust our current government to decide what good causes are, you're just gonna end up stealing oil or something. Maybe a better solution to young people feeling alienated and purposeless would be to create a government that deserves engagement

Katy is moving to a smaller, more conservative town, and I know how that feels. I live in a very conservative small town, and it is hard to find people to listen to my talking points. I have a few people who listen regularly at work and such, but I dont even talk with my conservative family that much.
