Hey there wonderful people! You know, I almost forget these days to say "hey, this one's print-in-place and support-free!" on these mechanical things. But yes, that's the case with this model!
The idea behind this box was to crank open the lid using an actual gear system so that the movement of the crank part can be different to the movement of the lid. This same idea was behind the Linkage Crate, though this time the effect is opposite, and driven by gears instead of levers.
So, turn the lever all the way around, and the lid rises up!

As you've probably guessed, this one prints lid-down, with the lid, outer walls, and cog pieces in contact with the bed. The base of the box has angled parts for printability, much like the aforementioned Linkage Crate, though I think I end up styling them differently every time :)

Many of you are busily printing face shields (as am I - the call finally went out here a few days ago), so I've kept the actual box dimensions fairly manageable for reasonable print times. However, unlike some of the designs I've done this one isn't really constrained by geometry, so it could be deeper very easily, and either longer or wider with little issue (but both at the same time could challenge printability!)
The model is up on Dropbox under Side-Drive Geared Box
Have fun! (and stay safe!)
xoxo
Sven.
