Justice is blind

“Allen G Hastings, you are sentenced to 20 years non-corporeal service!”

As soon as the judge passed down his decision, Allen had been taken into a Neuro-lab and injected with something.   He found himself in a virtual recreation of a single house isolated in a mountain valley.  Every book was about the virtue of public service or instruction on some trade, every TV show was about cooking, or handy-work.  For the next 20 years in “The Valley” Allen had nothing to do but learn trades in an endless cycle of identical days until his time was up and he would be returned to a physical body.

Allen focused on carpentry and construction.  By the end of his 20 years in “The Valley”, he had turned the small house into an ornate wilderness lodge with intricate hand carved beams, and scrollwork on almost every surface.   He was confident that as soon as he was back in the physical world, that he had a future as an artisan.  Whatever fat slob body they gave him on release would be in fine shape after a short time doing this physically demanding work.   As reintegration day grew near, Allen believed he was ready!

Allen was wrong!   At some point in the 20 years Allen was in “The Valley” some Politician had, out of malice or misplaced egalitarianism, removed gender as a reintegration consideration.

Allen was still in shock walking away from the reintegration center in the “Next Available” body he had been assigned.  The body of a 19 year old prostitute and conwoman who had just been sent to “the valley” for embezzling from her sugar-daddy.
