Hey Everyone!
I gotta be honest. When I saw this map pop up on my discord, I got pretty emotional. It was such a special moment and for the longest time I couldn't put my finger on why... I mean, it's a really cool, amazingly detailed map. That wasn't it though. There was so much more meaning behind it and now I think I finally understand why.
It's one thing to see your works in digital form come back at you. The first time someone posted their Own map that they made using My assets was such a memorable moment too. Seeing your maps and assets being shared and used is an amazing feeling.
This, I believe, was the first time I've ever seen one of the community maps 'out in the wild'. To see it on real paper, and not only that, but to see it in the hands of a 'Real' one of YOU, put things in such a different perspective.
It's totally different to see names pop up on patreon and discord, texting with them, maybe even talking with them. But to see the person and my work in the real world, interacting, (with so much joy in their eyes:) that is something else.
This map actually started a backburner project that I've been turning around in my head for a while. I really want to make the tiles a real thing. Have them be usable, on a table, to make maps with. (sort of like a puzzle that you could assemble in many different arrangements).
It's still far from something I can get started on with printing, but just wanted to let you know Butch, that you've inspired me to keep going with my idea, and gave me so much energy to continue. I really appreaciate you, and all of you who use the assets and make maps for your games.
I think maps are so much more than some shapes on a piece of paper. I believe Tolkien said it best:
“I wisely started with a map, and made the story fit (generally with meticulous care for distances). The other way about lands one in confusions and impossibilities, and in any case it is weary work to compose a map from a story.”
The map itself creates the story. With 158 of you at the moment of me writing this post, that's a lot of adventure to be had:))
And with that,
Happy Building <3
ps.: Butch has two cute doggies, Mae and Marla (I hope I got that right Butch) who he makes videos of on occasion. You can check them out on his youtube, :here:
pps.: You can find the original map (a slightly different one, that I made) in the attachments!
