Fixing the broken and shedding some Light on the dark
Added 2020-12-12 08:29:31 +0000 UTCSo, Europa is pretty cool. I'm super tired but I've put this post off for far too long. So here's a summary of what's new and changed;
- An all new Triumphs view to match the changes made to the game
A beautiful Lore view to accompany it - A refreshed Weeklies view
Many modules were made redundant once the darkness swallowed the lost worlds. As a result, it's looking a bit basic as far as customisation goes.
Sidebar! "Where'd the Now view go?"–I've always struggled with its place and purpose so I took its best bits and slotted them into the Weeklies' view selection of modules.
Braytech isn't just about smushing in as many features as I can–it's also an exercise in understanding its purpose and determining what I can do best. That's where I focus. This is my way of justifying why there are currently no vendor-related modules available.
- Maps. Oh, boy.
Beyond Light really decimated my custom maps data. I spent a few days working through it just to get it back in a working state.
This was largely due to the fact that many of the internal hashes (identifiers) in the game content changed... Records, checklists, destinations...
For supported devices (most of them), the size of the maps themselves has been reduced by 70%. - Xür–there's a Xür view now!
- A brand new landing page that I'm proud to see. They're the views I find hardest to design, especially when you can't lean on beautiful unique graphics or photography.
So that's a quick run down of the highlights. Let's talk about the nitty gritty.
The amount of work I've undertaken to unify some of the unnecessary duplication across internal systems and user interface markup is greater than anything user-facing. It's been a busy month! Also, I'm quite proud of it. Most of the common UI elements are now defined once and reused across contexts and I love it.
Some of the little things I believe differentiate Braytech are the insignificant bits that I work on such as the work I've done to make Braytech look better on resolutions greater than 1920 pixels–in part a result of some of the work I did to reduce redundant user interface markup.
Beyond Light is an excellent entry into the tapestry of Destiny, possibly the best yet. I'm not sure about Stasis in the Crucible at the time of writing (read as I hate it).
Outside of Destiny, it's been a tough few weeks for me as my car's clutch has dematerialised. So wonderful. I only wish programmable matter (Glimmer) were real. Fix it, Ghost.
I'll leave you with my favourite new thing, the details view for records (tap a record to see who on your fireteam or in your clan has or has not completed it).
