the science behind lofi music | Director's Commentary

Ooops, I accidentally just talked about everything except the video subject the whole time. Learn about my keyboard, the tools i use for animation, and literally everything except the subject of the video.

Check out the video i mentioned about J Dilla by Volksgeist: https://youtu.be/HaFczz4NuwY

There's definitely more convincing AI-generated music out there over my dumpster fire. I recommend checking out OpenAI's Jukebox, and the Magenta research project!

In terms of courses, I'd recommend anything by Jake Barlett or Hongshu Guo on Skillshare. Alternatively, checking out School of Motion if you want something more hands on. Unfortunately, both of those are behind a paywall. There's a lot of good stuff on YouTube but my favourite is Ben Marriott who has indepth tutorials that can teach you good practice and intuition for motion design! - Sabrina

I love your motion design! Is there a course/resource you'd recommend a noob use to start learning it?

I am curious to see if AI-generated music will be able to rival music composed by humans. As it stands currently, it's plain to see a difference between the two, but I would say it's not impossible to bridge the gap if someone were to dedicate an astronomical amount of time to teach the AI how to compose. Based on this video and my knowledge of machine learning, it will all depend on the systems we develop, the breakthroughs in technology, and how well we are able to teach this concept to Artifical Intelligence. I would say this is proof of the potential for the future. The concept of machine learning as a whole seems to be limited that AI can only predict what will happen, but it's not easy to teach AI how to be creative. Can math and statistics overcome what we feel? It seems that would lead to stagnation if true.

+1 to what everyone’s saying! I feel anyone who’s here in the Patreon are nerdy enough to be interested in practically any commentary that you share especially the behind-the-scenes thinking and the process! The animations are really something and I’d love to hear more about it (esp because you work so long on it for like 2-3 seconds)!

In general discussion about your production/creative process would be interesting. Maybe check out GCP Grey's director's commentary for inspo? I quite like them. Though yours are already great!

Luis

I enjoyed what you discussed! Also discussion about what you decide to leave to editors vs what you like to do yourself would also be interesting

I really enjoy the behind the scenes look at the motion graphics! The answer in progress videos are really well researched and presented and the animations are to me what makes them stand out from other videos in the same genre. Also I work with animation myself so I find it really interesting to hear about your approach!

i have so many plugins and so many thoughts. - Sabrina

I actually enjoyed this Commentary a lot. So at least for me, stick with what ever you find interesting to tell ^^ Idea for another patreon exclusive: "Sabrinas Plugin Reviews" ; )

Sabrina, you really don't need to apologize (no matter how Canadian you are). It's a director's commentary. You're the director. Comment on the things you want. If the animation's what you wanna talk about, go for it. You're still sharing behind-the-scenes thoughts about the process of making the video, which is the point.
