Normally it'd be very simple to have your friends fly in for a visit. Even if they were to stay in your home! It's not so easy when your home is a cruising boat...In another country. Trust me when I say that it takes a TON of planning to have friends come for a visit when you're cruising from place to place. It's totally worth all the fuss though!
I began planning this trip with my two best friends, Nicole (left) and Nikki (right) long before we even took ownership of Calypso. We came up with some ideas but once we moved onboard and started cruising towards the Caribbean the plans got more solid.
Both couples were able to swing a week off of work at the same time which was great. The rule we have is that the visitor can choose the timeframe but not the place. Weather and so much more dictates where you'll be and honestly, nobody really knows where that will be! So we planned on the timeframe and told them the location once we arrived. In this case, they were flying into the Virgin Islands!
Once we arrived in the BVI we told both couples to book their flights, Jeremiah and I had a little time to kill so we sailed around deciding what we'd like to do with our guests coming onboard. Both couples decided to fly into St Thomas, USVI and ferry over to the BVI's to save money. However, their flights were arriving and departing on different days so this added another level of planning on our end. We ended up pulling into a marina and sitting on the dock for both couples arrivals.
The first couple arrived on a Friday, we relaxed around the marina for the night. The other couple arrived on Saturday, we literally threw their bags onboard as we tossed off the lines to head on over to the Willy T, basically a barge/bar floating in a harbor just off of Peter Island, BVI. It was a one hour sail over to Peter from the marina, it was a beautiful sail and a great way to start the week! This picture is taken on a ball right outside of the Willy T (you can see it in the background). It got a little crazy here, all 3 girls had a blast jumping off the top platform of the Willy-T completely nude. The boys were persuaded to jump naked as well, although we had a larger audience LOL!
Overall, it was an awesome time and a great first night to a week cruising around the BVI aboard Calypso!
