Thank you! Again!

Feels like holding a baby! An expensive one too ...

Thanks to your support, I did something I wouldn't normally do and that is getting an overpriced, high-end piece of hardware.
This stuff has its place of course, but usually I'd buy something that gets me the best value for money.

One of the advantages of using a GPU renderer like Redshift (as I do) is that upgrading is as simple as swapping out the graphics card. Another advantage is that you can simply add the new card to the old one and just run both.
Unfortunately, when I built my system in 2012, I didn't have multi GPU in mind, so I neither have the space, nor the cooling, nor the power supply to run two GPUs.
I might upgrade to AMD's Ryzen in the future, but the fact that their r7 line allows only two GPUs in the system, is a real damper. I'm currently hoping that either their server grade CPUs will be affordable or that Intel lowers their prices significantly.

Anyhow, this was still a worthwhile upgrade! The scenes, I tested, rendered about 70% faster than before. Scenes, which were limited by my old 970's measly 3,5gb Vram, now render more than twice as fast.

I'll let it render one of my old animations overnight to see if any problems pop up.

Thank you guys so much, again!

PS: Symmetra's body rig is done and I'll work on the facial rig today.

Thank you! Again!

"970's measly 3,5gb Vram" Makes me laugh, I'm still rocking a 670. Would kill for a 970. XD Killer upgrade though, 70% faster rendering is nothing to sneeze at!

NICE!

Inceton games

If you're talking about interactive stuff or something that runs in a game engine, then no. Some sort of steroscopic or panoramic renders, maaaybe if the scene would benefit from it.

The results from gaming benchmarks aren't really comparable to how these cards will perform in Redshift ... the gaps between the different cards aren't nearly as large. Also, in Redshift's case, the results heavily depend on the scene and render settings. I did a little bit more testing yesterday and got closer to double the performance of my 970, which was around what I was hoping for. One scene even rendered three times as fast. There's a couple of settings, which can speed up the render time at the expense of memory, something I couldn't really use with my 970. Another thing to keep in mind is that my card only runs at 90% load at most. I assume that's because some of it is reserved for Windows and Maya and whatnot.

It's strange that 1080Ti is only 70% faster than 970. It should be 3 times faster.

No way, gotta werk, werk, werk! :p

What's that? Can't hear you from up here :|

Nothing I could not have done before. But it'll make lighting and lookdev in general much more enjoyable, thanks to the faster preview renders.

Sure is! <3

Why? She's still wearing the shroud!

Thank you and I will :p

Beauty and the beast all in one :p

Awwww shit motherfucker moving on up!
