My friends, the last three days were quite eventful. Sherman might seem like a very simple tank, but the small details can be a rather laborous task.
There are still some missing parts, namely all the tools and the wading gear. The biggest highlight of the updated Tarawa kit from Dragon are IMO the 3D printed headlight and rear light covers. So much more convenient and prettier than PE!
I also managed to find an unused 30 cal barrel for the bow machine gun. I still need to make that tarp ring around it!
Aber PE was so far used just for the chains on the fuel caps and some details on the hatches. I mainly bought that set for the tool brackets.
The telephone box from Lanmo got detached from printing supports which led to some deformation… I’ll just camouflage it as damage.
As I’m getting close to assembling the wading gear, I have one more question for you who know more about Shermans. I know some kind of insulation was used on deep wading Shermans, but I can’t find a good photo of it. The image of King Kong makes it look like torn tape on the rear stack, but in another photo of M4A3 the insulation looks like tar. I understand that this was applied around the stacks, engine deck, harches, etc. Not sure how extendive it was on USMC tanks and how quickly it was removed, though. So if anyone has a photo showing this detail, I’d be infinitely grateful 🥹
