Paints are ON

My friends, I started the painting stage, and I wanted to start working on the scene instead of the mech suit. It's a more traditional way for me to first paint and finish the main subject and then paint the diorama because it's easier to match up the color of the groundwork to the earth tones on the model, as these have to sometimes be adjusted for optimal contrast with its paint job.

But here I just wanted to start working on the scenery right off the bat! Everything is so far painted with AK acrylics, but I'll soon hit it with some enamels as well. I just need to paint the sandbags and then I'll proceed to the muddy groundwork.

What caught me off guard was the planking. I employed my traditional color palette and process that always brought me predictable results, but here I couldn't get it right, so it took me several hours of experimenting to get the look I was mostly satisfied with.

So far I mostly tried styling my WW1 scenes to a rather dull, gloomy look. In this case I'm simply going with the flow, on one hand because I'm getting used to new paints, on the other because it's a fictional subject in a scale I'm not used to, so I'm letting things unwrap on their own.

The sandbags will be pre-shaded with an airbrush and then painted with the glazing method. I'm very excited for this step because otherwise it would be a very exhausting process!
