My friends, the base received some colors. The photos are in reverse order as usual π
I was able to spray the basic earth and grass tones and apply some quick enamel washes using the same colors used on the Jagdtiger. I'll be playing around with them more today, I'll also paint the loose stones, outline the track marks etc.
Here's an interesting fact: if you base coat the whole thing with a dark color (Mahogany Surfacer in this case), it'll create fake shadows, adding a lot of depth to the scene, mainly the vegetation. You can compare the dense grass in the previous post and note how it looks thicker than it actually is. It's that impression where the grass is so thick you can't see the ground through it. I think it creates a very cool effect!
Also, next time I might switch the order of steps and just paint the vegetation first because there's always a ton of overspray which I always need to fix with the original ground color, so painting foliage first and then blocking in the groundwork might be just overall much easier and faster.
Also also, I might've solved the issue with the corners being "empty". Not only there are gonna be spent shells in one corner, but I completely forgot about the unused tree branches which I said will be laying around the tank as if they fell off when it was shooting. Maybe I had all the necessary ingredients ready the whole time π
If needed, I might still add some random tool box from Miniart, or add an oil stain on the road... who knows, we'll see once the groundwork is properly painted with all the details picked out.
Maybe I should make the grass a bit more "dusty" so it doesn't look so green compared to the JT, but on the other hand, I think that contrast looks pretty cool, especially since it's spring and everything is full of colors. Obviously the broken fence needs to be painted, and it's adding a lot of unnecessary greenery to the scene right now π
