Bling bling

Hey friends,

well, I was too sleepy for an update last night 😆 but today it's that more worth it. I already got all the PE done on the rear plate and the engine deck... it's actually so relaxing compared to the excessive clean-up on the plastic parts!

I also added the shell impacts according to photos of the real 331. The real tank is photographed with one extra impact directly between the mantlet and gun barrel, but that was the shot which destroyed the gun and made the vehicle useless/knocked it out. Since I'm portraying it still in action, I didn't include that final blow.

A few observations: for the impacts, I again made holes with a rotary tool and a ball burr. Then I again filled them with Tamiya putty like in that video tutorial, but this time I used the metal burr as a sculpting tool, which left a very rough surface, just like on the real thing! It looks so much better than "smooth" craters.

Superglue: my praised MXBon black superglues have completely dried out, so I had to quickly order a cheapo black glue called Black Bolt. It does the same job, but it dries much quicker so it doesn't give you enough time to position the PE properly. This leads to me sometimes prying the part off and starting all over again. Not ideal, but better than nothing. I also have the Black Widow CA from AK interactive on order, so I'm curious to try that one. Also, MXBon seems to be unavailable anywhere... so you probably won't see me using it again...

Anyway, back to modelling! I'm gonna focus on the front plate and roof. These areas are full of simple details, and I'm understandably leaving the worst - sides - for the very end 😆

Haha, after 3 German models in the last year, I can luckily say I got them dialed! One takes me less than 5 minutes to assemble 😁

Rough steel and delicate PE create very nice contrast! Off center, you mean the muzzle hole? That could be as I had to drill it out with a hobby blade, it was molded solid :(

German PE tool clamps are an eternal enemy of mine

Man, this is sooo inspiring. Makes me want to put a heavy tank and focus solely on that heavy, rough steel presence. Truly nice stuff. Is that the kit's hull MG barrel? From here its muzzle looks a tad off-center but I'm not sure if that's because of the pic's angle.
