I think the reaction to Jenny's death was meant to be a little underwhelming. He was already emotionally distancing himself from her so her death reaction to me, felt like he was thinking that this was inevitable. Everyone the Doctor has loved has either died or left, so I felt like just another long line of sorrow for the doctor. He is used to managing sorrow, he puts up a mask and just carries on. Also there was a spin off comic line with Jenny.
