When Martha tells him she's "not remotely interested", a neurotypical person might automatically make a mental note of that being a lie, and prompted by their mentioning of their previous partner. The Doctor does not. He's fascinated by what he doesn't understand - and sometimes I feel that includes the typical audience surrogate humans he has in his life. But yeah. Poor Martha.
