Well, if you insist:
Sony's '02 Tobey Maguire Spiderman predated Disney's '08 MCU, so Sony stubbornly held on to rights to all characters from Spiderman's comic, and hoped for a "competing" franchise, but the mess of their Andrew Garfield "Amazing Spiderman" movies sank those hopes.
Finally, there was a peace settlement that allowed Disney/MCU to use Tom Holland's Peter Parker/Spidey in "Captain America: Civil War", but the three solo Holland movies were still considered Sony...Meanwhile, Sony held on to their rights, and still tried to create a franchise out of all the alternate Spidey characters MCU didn't use, like Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen, and all the villains that hadn't been used yet, like Venom and Morbius.
And judging by all the recent Net-giggling over "It's Morbin' time!", it ain't working. But "Spiderman: No Way Home" at least set up another excuse for peace talks to bring the Sony-verse and MCU-verse together, at least for any previously used movie characters.
Oh, and if you're wondering about that post-credit scene, that's from the vintage 60's afternoon cartoon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsx3JCw62WQ

I believe, I believe. Great to be back on track. Now you're ready for "No Way Home". Hope you make it soon.
This is Sony-Marvel, not to be confused with Disney-Marvel. Sony held the rights to Spider-man. Not sure where it stands now, what with all the recent cross-over. Maybe Eric will clarify.
