6/10 Roadmap
Added 2024-06-10 10:01:14 +0000 UTCWork has been going very well on How the Breast Was Won. I accomplished everything I planned last week, PLUS, I managed to hash out the math and code needed to implement a stat testing system (think skill checks from D&D). I can now easily write passages that give you an option that relies on a skill, then effectively rolls a die to determine whether you were successful and gives the appropriate outcome. I'm very excited by how this system is turning out. It will give some real meaning to your character creation choices.
Unfortunately, this process also turned up some issues with the stats I settled on. I've already revealed the "wits" stat in last week's tease, but further work has shown that it and one other stat really need to be changed. So, I'll be exchanging the "wits" stat with a new "stealth" stat. Another as-yet-unrevealed stat will be changed for similar reasons.
I had hoped to use wits for tests to create plans or outsmart other characters, but the issue was that those things feel more natural being governed by player choice than by a skill test. Stealth will be used instead for things like sneaking past someone or cheating at a poker game (something I previously planned for wits).
Going forward this week, I plan to get into the real meat of the prose sections and get a lot written for the introductory scenes.
Checklist:
1. Finish intro scene skill test outcomes.
2. Write prose for "arriving to town" scene.
3. Add in new character.
4. Code NPC stat block for new character.
5. Change "wits" to "stealth" in stat test coding and character creation.
