Damn you faces... damn you! Oh, and I'm working again!

Greetings fellow gamers!

Back from vacation, meant to work on the translation a few nights during the vacation, but I won't lie, I didn't do shit. It was kind of nice. Oh, and who's playing Overwatch? I'm told by a few people I need to pick it up, but... I hesitate to buy too many time-sucking games. The dilemmas I tell you.

Anyways, I'd meant to post an update with the final version of the panty tease (meaning, to show you an example of pride variation), but fuck me if my art ability has been shit the last two days. Every attempt I make to get Aylia's high pride expression right just ends up looking terrible. I was aiming for very embarrassed, looking down and away, while lifting her skirt. Decided about 5pm today that I need to take a step back, since I almost chucked my mouse into the wall in frustration. Let me tell you, spending almost 2 days on a couple expressions gets frustrating real fast. (Note: ignore the weirdly shaped heads, those get reshaped and covered by the hair, so I tend to be pretty loose with them)

Deep breathes... Googling "breasts"... Ah, that's better.

On to the news. Couple things.

1. I will post the pride teaser when I finish it. I want to show you all what to expect without spoiling too much. Yes, you'll see the panty tease, and the three pride variations, but then you can have an idea of what to expect with all the skills. This is one reason why it has taken a year+ to get everything done. There are a lot of art requirements to meet the game I'm trying to create, and I'm not the quickest artist--more like the tortoise of artwork.

2. I need to get going on Lore Posts, since I'm 3 behind now. I'll step up in that department this weekend. I'll post the slime lore post, then I'll get the Eliandre one out some time next week.

3. I'm done with release dates and estimates. If I give you all a release estimate, it is because the release content in question is done and in testing. I won't miss another one (hopefully, can't ever say never). Instead, my new plan is to start more progress reports--good idea to those who suggested it. I don't have time tonight to create one, and the first one will be a little less detailed then the template I'll ultimately create, but it should provide more transparency and curb my stupid optimism that has already gotten me in loads of trouble. Basically, I'll break down development in the primary categories (maps, eventing, system graphics, artwork, etc.) and tell you where I'm at based on my current plan. This way, when I say, "I feel like if I just bust my ass this week, I can get chapter 1 done," you can look at the list and call me out for being a dumb shit. Which I am, since in May I thought I'd get the sounds done in a day...

4. I'm not decided on the chapter 1 release yet. I'll make that decision next week. It will require a bit more work to release it in chunks, but not a crazy amount of work. I'm leaning towards the suggestion that it depend on where I'm at--meaning, if it looks like things might drag on another month, release the first half. If it doesn't, hold it until the full release. Still, I don't mind giving people choice, and just releasing it and letting those who want to play, play. I'm reading all your comments (thanks for that) and I'll figure it out next week.

5. I've been working on the Hunter's Quest translation the last two nights. I've almost got everything transferred over now. I fixed the old man scene in the slums, I've re-opened the brothel, I believe all text codes are working properly now (no more crashes). So, there is progress on that front. Also, I want to extend a HUGE thanks to those who bought the game and supported the original developer! When I released the first translation version, Hunter's Quest (a 2014 game) jumped to #22 on the best seller list on DLSite. I did not check the original sales number, but I believe there were around 600-800 new purchases. Given that the game originally sold around 5k, I feel that's pretty good, plus when I release v1.0.0, I think a few more people might buy it. So again, thanks!

Alright, that's it from me. I have to work a real job tomorrow... boo! But, I'll be either working on the translation or getting the pride variation teaser ready tomorrow night. It's good to be back in the saddle.

It just so happened he wanted to make the deadline for HQ then he had a vacation. Hopefully now he's well rested enough to go full force into it

Might make sense if you compare japanese sales VS "gaijin" sales. Huge difference. Some would claim that also making english translations would increase sales outside of Japan (which it most likely would), but it's unclear wether or not the sales would increase enough as to make the extra hassle worth it. The language barrier is still very much present, and machine translations are still not effective enough, meaning that most Japanese game makers would either have to hire a translator or spend valuable time and money to improve their English. And even if they did, what would stop non-Japanese from just pirating their game anyway, as they already seem to be doing by the shitload, rendering their hard work useless? Also, it's illegal by Japanese law to sell their product/spread their filth outside of Japan. Those laws are neatly being circumvented by online stores such as DLsite, but I guess the law still affects your run-of-the-mill Japanese to not make the extra hassle and avoid unwanted attention from the government. It's complicated. It's easier and faster for you to actually learn Japanese language than to patiently wait for unlicensed translations or the Japanese government changing their laws.

I'd wager your translation will bring them at least 2K extra sales. Always wondered why those Japanese devs so rarely translate their work, when it is guaranteed to pay off. And yours is an unofficial fan translation, mind you, many of their potential buyers won't even know of it.

I cant' say anything about art 'cause...I suck at drawning xD Anyway, glad you're back, but I'm a bit disappointed in seeing that we are mid-june and chapter 1 is still not out, and not even in the near future. I thought that missing your release date last month was something that you can cover with 2 or 3 weeks of works.

Thanks! Yea, I'll get it in time, just a bit annoying when I spend a couple hours, look at the result, and feel it didn't work out. Not the first time though, and won't be the last :-)

That's exactly what he claims as his plan: stop with the hyperoptimistic release dates and instead make updates on the progress. He never claimed he would make the entire project in one piece. He's only declared that it will now be bigger than originally planned and thus may be split into more parts. Also, this is yet to become his fulltime job, so his time is limited. As for the cons, it probably is bad business practice, but at least he's being straightforward about delays.

Thanks YT. I'm very patient and I understand you want have more time for your projects. these people try push you to having the release date. i'm not one in these people. I agreed with James.

Renegade2012

listen YT I'll still support you and Im a very patient guy.. but telling me what you DIDNT do.. really tests that patience, as im sure it does many of your patrons.. and ALWAYS pushing the release date. come at us with updates and what you DID do.. I know youre new to patreon compared to some people but little advice.. telling people all about all the cons you have in your project in these "updates" is not good for business. P.S. majority of your patrons wanted a full piece of work.. but youre saying you might or going to do chunks.. Which you said makes more work meaning MORE TIME because i said it before. im not playing until its ALL done.youre just making this longer than it has to be.. idc about time.. i really dont. i care about Wasted time... Draw till the end of time idc if it take you long.. that just makes the art better... just one thing.. PLEASE YT spend your time wisely and dont procrastinate .. if you really want to do patreon full time.. then pick up the slack becuase this is a "real"job too if you want it to be.

James

Thanks for the update, don't worry i'm sure you can manage with the faces considering what i have seen already and above all welcome back.

Perhaps a different way of seeing it: Her right eye (left from us) is too visible, perhaps - I'd expect that in a face turned away, that eye disappears partially behind nose/eyebrows, so perhaps what's making it look weird is that it's too much of a "normal" eye with some scaling adjustments, but we wouldn't expect an eye to look like that in that position?

BearPerson

If you're looking for feedback on these faces: Naively, I'd say they seem a little shifted - they're trying to be a slightly past 3/4 view, but the eyes and positioning are off - there's too much space to the right, and not enough to the left.
