Early Access Prologue

Hello everyone!

Well, I've uploaded a copy of the final prologue. Unfortunately, it will not allow you to transfer saves, so the only reason to play it at this point is if you want to see the new portraits, the edited and improved dialogue, and the basic battle system. Somewhere along the line, the damn achievements script got screwy on me again, and now the damn level up script is not working. I don't think either is too big of a deal, but I won't get them fixed tonight, and I told you guys I'd get you something this weekend. I do want to caution, don't expect any new scenes, as this really is mostly the same prologue you guys played so long ago. The only reason to replay it at this point is to see how things have improved and experience the battle system.

At this point, I'm mostly drawing CGs. With how the game is shaping up, there are some pretty hefty graphic requirements, but honestly, I'd have it no other way. Graphics variety is freakin' awesome, and it something that is often lacking in many games.

Here is the link to the early access prologue. Please do not share this outside of Patreon. First, my bandwidth on Mega is now limited (due to their new system), and second, it is not ready for public consumption. I will share the final chapter 1 demo publicly, and plan to upgrade my Mega account (or find a better hosting solution) at that point. Thank you so much for your help with this!

If you do give it a try, do not hesitate to leave feedback on anything at all. Or, you can send me a message if that works better. Enjoy!

You need to download the VX Ace RTP. It can be found on Enterbrain's website. Check the front page for the link.

Hey, I'm having problems playing the prologue. It requires a RTP program. What system will be required to run the next alpha?

Nine Horse Hitch

From playing through it multiple times... I would say that would depend on your definition of "win". There seems to be a few ways to get Aylia's dress to fall down completely, but there's also ways to get more relationship points out of the conversation, which could be more beneficial in the long run depending on how many chances you get to raise it for certain scenes.

Solar Pants

With reference to the conversation, it seems like there is only 1 way to "win" the conversation. Will there be any benefits to Bogwart Battlelust doing the whole stare and drool thing rather than the smart strategic goblin thing? If not- that's fine (and makes sense for the character) but it does make it so that there is only 1 perceived way to play though the conversations.

Buster4MC

Good catch. Bug squashed. Thanks!

YummyTiger Gaming

Minor bug. The roof of one of the homes on the far left of the screen in town doesn't occlude Aylia properly. In other words, it looks like she is walking on the roof, when she is actually behind the house. Easy fix.

Buster4MC

Thanks for the feedback--and for telling me how to get a line break. That has been driving me nuts. I like your idea of having that background music fade out after the initial scene and move into the mine music. I agree, it gets repetitive quickly, but I did really like the vibe it set for the initial scene of Bogwort moving about. I'll make that change right now actually. There are no H-enemies in the prologue. 1) I did not want to draw H graphics for the potato sack when the outfit lasts for basically the initial part of the prologue, and 2) I wanted to work into the battle H. There are 4 H-enemies in chapter 1, and there will be progressively more and more as the game advances. If you watched the nifty exploration tutorial, you'll know that pink enemies will represent battle H. I did say in the past that not all enemies will respawn each day, but I am going to make sure that at least one of each H-enemy respawns each day. You should be able to guess why :-) I'll check the Triste scene. I didn't remember having Aylia glare back. I was aiming for her to be more confused at Triste's demeanor than anything. It is definitely possible that I missed a character bust switch. As for Bogwort, his support abilities will increase through leveling and in-game choices. The number of support actions will increase based on Aylia and Bogwort's relationship status. There will be numerous points in the game to raise (or lower) that. Finally, the breast jiggle was my messing around with simple animation. Ultimately, I'd like to have a bit of animation similar to ScaleGarden's stuff. I want to have breast jiggles on the message busts where appropriate. For example, her nude portrait would jiggle, but based on her posture, her peasant dress portrait would not.

YummyTiger Gaming

Okay I hope you're ready for THIS WHERE IT'S OPINION AT: I wasn't actually sold on the music in the first room. It was sort of fun for the first segment of talking between Bogwort and Aylia, but I found it got extremely repetitive with the looping even before I left that room. Maybe have it switch during/after the battle tutorial? Secondly, was it intended that there were no H-Enemies in the prologue? I tried to fight everything I saw and never ran into one. I also tried Wink a bunch of times and that never worked either. Is the Potato Sack not supposed to have a weak point? Third, I found the first time you met the farm girl (Triste?) there's a scene where she's glaring at Aylia and the script reads "Aylia glares back" but the standing picture still has Aylia grinning away. I liked the difficulty of the battles, but I didn't really understand the stamina element yet. I guess that will become more important as I unlock more abilities? Finally, how can I unlock more "help" per battle from Bogwort? Is there ever times where he helps whatever it is you're fighting? (Hopefully some H-Enemy?) I lked the slight breast-jiggle the first time the portrait comes up! Will that (or similar) be used often? By the way you can get the line break with SHIFT+ENTER.

Wise man. Patience is a virtue!

Thanks for the feedback! The opening cave music is a new addition, which I'm not 100% sold on. I did like that it fit Bogwort's troublemaker personality (it is called troublemaker after all), but I'm still debating whether to just use the standard mines music. I do love the new intro and Zalran music though. I think the guy who composed them did an outstanding job capturing the feel I was looking for. As for the quick thrust skill--it is the last script hangup I have. Getting the achievements and skill additions to work properly. They will work in chapter 1. (btw, how did you get a line space in this new message system?)

YummyTiger Gaming

Loved it! Music was good, although I was a little jarred by the opening cave music when it introduced an electronic-sounding buzz in the middle of all this orchestral-sounding stuff. just a minor quibble, I was thinking maybe it would be better with a banjo or oboe there. Also, a little thing that you probably already knew about: some character portraits don't match up to their sprites (mayor, Voran). I appreciate the battle system, it was a nice introduction to what you plan to do with the game. I was confused that I didn't seem to be able to use the "quick thrust" ability Aylia learned on one of her level-ups. Also unfortunately didn't see any Battle H, but I was eager to get good at the battles so it wasn't a huge issue with me. No other issues or crashes with me.

fryfry

I really want to play it but don't want to spoil anything until chapter one so i am waiting it out :) but love those pics on hongfire you posted of the combat and menu and pictures.

Yea, that is on the to-do list. His advice will continually vary per battle, but I know people will want to skip it for most battles.

YummyTiger Gaming

i just finished the prologue without any issues i did have a suggestion that you make bogwart default to skip instead of advice because that could get really irritating after awhile

habibo

Anyone come across any other issues with the prologue? I did a pretty thorough playthrough, no half-assing it this time :-), and fixed the few things I came across. If not, I think I may update my public forum posts with this prologue. Not going to advertise it much, since it is the same thing, but I'd rather newcomers experience the finished prologue instead of the half finished one. Thanks for your testing! It has already proved beneficial to release things to you guys first!

YummyTiger Gaming

take your time i can wait :) playing witcher 3 waiting for those bug fixes now i can wait for anything

That bug is now squashed!

YummyTiger Gaming

Thanks, it has been pretty smooth this evening, most of the bugs have been easy to fix. Hopefully the Bogwort house issue is as well. I have an idea what it might be.

YummyTiger Gaming

Ahh I was hoping to try this tonight before bed! Still excited for tomorrow I suppose. Best of luck getting it all fixed!

thswherizat

Good luck in taking out the bugs. Can't wait to try out the new system

Aw man, I came late to the game! And here I was looking forward to playing the prologue no matter how buggy it was! :P I'm just excited to part of that early testing group, and honestly, I have patience comin' out the ears for your work, yt.

fryfry

Having the same issue as some off the others Game crashed when entering Bogwort's house after meeting with the Priest. Script ' reference events' line 132: NoMethodError occured undefined method 'id=' for nil:NilClass

Just to reiterate, the prologue will be up again soon. This was supposed to be a FINAL prologue without a bunch of bugs... ugh! Anyways, I think some of this occurred when I went through and cleaned everything up. Things like lumping maps together, cleaning out unused database stuff, etc. I guess I messed up a few things when I did all that :-)

YummyTiger Gaming

Yea, I probably will, but it is super easy to get all decrypter and decrypt RPG Maker games anyways, so it is a minor inconvenience at best. Still, I'd probably do it because it makes things tidier.

YummyTiger Gaming

Thanks. I do plan on changing Bogwort's command to default to guard--assuming I can figure that out. Also, I do want to know that he has 2-4 comments that vary between almost every enemy set, so there is lots of variety at least :-)

YummyTiger Gaming

It'll be up soon again. The map overlays made the maps look like shit, and I don't really want people seeing the game like that :-)

YummyTiger Gaming

Oh damn. I was so excited to play new prologue, but had no way to download it earlier, and now the link is removed. Is it because it had some bugs you want to fix?

TheByQ

I have the same problem, don't work with Firefox, no problems with Chrome.

TheNetsrac

There are some mushrooms you can pick up in the mines that when consumed will bring you back to full health. Press X to enter menu and then select items/items/all, then select the mushrooms and use them on Aylia. The two bats at the end of the mines are rather nasty though. I ran past them and thus avoided that combat =) Is press X to enter character menu mentioned in the basic tutorial??? Having played lots of rpg maker games, I skipped that part.

TheNetsrac

Is there any way to heal? I keep dying on the way to the first town after being found by Bowgart.

Rasu89

First off: Wow! the prologue is a lot better now, Awesome!!! I love all the little improvements and the battle system works really well. I have one suggestion to that though: When Bogwort is out of "action points", would it be possible to make his default action "guard" instead of the "advice" or whatever it is called. Minor thing, but it is a bit bothersome to have to switch from advice to guard every combat round, when he can't do anything but those two actions. I really like his funny/useless comments.... but still ;-) Oh and I noticed a typo when examining the miner's chisel weapon "............ but at least it *iss* not a butter knife". Well and the game does indeed crash when entering Bogwort's house, as others have already mentioned =( But all in all I love the improvements in the prologue and I am now even more excited for the real game =) . Best of luck and keep up the VERY good work

TheNetsrac

Crud. I'm about to be on the road and off the Interwebz for a solid week, so I have no further feedback for the prologue until at least then. I see the enemy names from the menu not matching the selected enemy graphic bug is still there, but that's not exactly helpful from me, lol.

Looks sweet YT! One thing to consider, is that you might want to encrpyt your files so it can't be opened with VX Ace by anybody else. :-)

Shaele

Geez, it seems to be loading the wrong overlay... it is comical, everything was working just fine not 1 day ago.

YummyTiger Gaming

Can you elaborate. I'm not sure I follow.

YummyTiger Gaming

Thanks.

YummyTiger Gaming

Probably a random RPG Maker crash. I'll check into it, but I've played through this thing a billion times without crashing. Of course, who knows, I might have broke something in my last minute fiddling! :-)

YummyTiger Gaming

Yea, most of the sounds are normalized, but I have not gone through the pre-created effects yet. I'll do this soon. I'm hesitant to add another script to adjust sound, just because I'm starting to get conflict problems with as many scripts as I'm running. Being super picky and choosy.

YummyTiger Gaming

The closed down "tavern" in the broken down part of Valrun has the remnants of a tree around the door.

Secular Reason

This isn't a bug, more a personal thought, but the sound effect from attacking is rather loud when compared to the rest of the music and such. Too loud I think. In fact, almost *all* the sound effects seem loud compared to the music. Maybe add an option to adjust the sound in an options menu?

Secular Reason

The bat and snake combo at the end of the wooded area has the same problem.

Secular Reason

Careful with your naming conventions for the enemies! The first battle with the bat and rat combo has the names mixed up.

Secular Reason

Just finished the download. Looking forward to it!

Secular Reason

Don't know if it's only on my side, but Firefox is being a bitch about that link and not doing anything. It works with Chrome though. :) Thanks for your hard work!

Galamuth

Game crashed when entering Bogwort's house after meeting with the Priest. Script ' reference events' line 132: NoMethodError occured undefined method 'id=' for nil:NilClass Other than that I enjoyed the demo. Looking forward to seeing Chapter 1!

Paul Rendell

Just finished the download. Looking forward to it!

Secular Reason

Thanks for all the hard work! Good luck finishing chapter one!
