Hello, here I am! So, this is one of my favourite EKHÖ covers. But, as I HATE creating cover images, as usual it took a me a lot to decide the right image to use.
The story is about a fancy dinner in Manhattan, expensive wine and a mutant octopuss. Many funny elements to work with!
There are some mermaids too, so in the beginning I tried to use the mermaid scene. But it looked not enough to represent the whole book. So I tried some other things. At the end I chose option C.
But how to show Manhattan without creating a messy image? I decided to put an iconic Manhattan building, the Empire State, very central and frontal, to keep it a little flat and add drama.
Nolwenn Lebreton did the color art. You can see her first version of the image. She decided she used too many colors and went to a more simple version, keeping the background flatter in cold tones and the characters in warm tones.
The result has a very "party" mood and I'm so satisfied with it :) a little "Christmassy" too, which was perfect, for the book went on sale in late November!
I hope you enjoied this little trip. hasta la proxima!
