Using/Choosing Color patron-picked video!

You guys voted on what video I'd film this month, and the popular choice was USING COLOR! I have struggled in the past with explaining my choices because they all feel second nature to me, and I didn't know how to put it into words. (In fact as I mention in this video, I've actually explained how I use color previously in this newsletter from December 2020, just scroll down a bit to get to it) But this time, I think I might have been able to...mostly explain it? I did my best, but please let me know if more questions arise after you watch!

I love filming patreon-exclusive videos because of how laid-back I can be here with you guys, and although it does take a lot of time to film and edit, it's a lot of fun. I've got a busy spring and summer coming up seeing as work has picked back up, but I cannot wait to film some more in the future.

Have a lovely weekend my friends and I'll see you very soon with a bloggy secret sketches post :-)

I really enjoyed this video. I struggle a lot with color and picking color for pieces-- it is the scariest part for me. I love and am inspired by how you use color in your works and it was actually really refreshing seeing how your taste in color changes and you go with the flow of it. I have always feared that once you pick a pallet or a style-- that is it, you cannot change it. But seeing how you change even over the course of a year is an inspiring outlook.

This was truly refreshing, loved seeing the snippets of your cozy home and how you apply color in your life!

Thank you!! Yes that lime is my little eureka moment in so many pieces lately 🪲

I really love how you integrate vintage-pop kind of tones and earth tones, It feels so classic and fresh at the same time! Love that lime hue, I've always underestimated that sort of tone but it does look great

I think this is definitely a part of it! I forget to credit my schooling, as well. Like so much of what I do now, including choosing color, is thanks to traditional painting classes, or specific projects for illustration classes that push me to think more about color choices. I definitely did not wake up knowing everything about color one day, it’s years and years of learning and experimenting. Thanks for jogging my memory to even mention this :’-)

I love how intuitive your color choices are. I've found that over time as I do more traditional work, my digital color choices become easier. I wonder if some of your confidence in color comes from painting too?
