.22 Shorts - Don't let their "cuteness" fool you

In this video we pit .22 shorts against .22 LR.    The tiny shorts are often mocked for being weak,   but they are surprising deadly.

thanks everyone!

.22 Shorts - Don't let their "cuteness" fool you

I love finding ancient ammo to try out in my modern 22LR (Remington 795). I scored a brick of 60 year old Wildcat recently from a closed down old country store in WA and that stuff shoots like crazy!

I hope me posting that link is ok. I loved it, so...

Another super effective mass accelerator and a very cool video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4I-p8vjQ95s

Surprisingly effective little rounds... I guess size doesn't matter ;-D

Danny's back! Yay, Danny. Good to see that whatever kept you away didn't adversely affect your aim! The rounds smaller than the .22 short were BB and CB caps - the latter a bit more pointed, with the former just a round ball. Haven't seen these since I was a boy shooting in the back yard in New Hampshire about 60 years ago. We'd pick up a box at the general store on the way into Sanbornville after helping my uncle on his truck route. You could use them for target practice inside the house - they were that quiet - but that's not to say it was encouraged by any of the adults around. The .22 shorts were pretty cheap - about .50 a box, if I recall, while the longs and long rifle were around .70 to .80 a box, so you got a lot more shots for a buck. Used to shoot bottle caps stuck on the side of the barn; you made do with what you had in those days. Small as the CB and BB caps were, they still packed a wallop relative to mice and such. The "real stuff" was the long rifle, though - especially the hollow points. That extra "crack" from the supersonic velocity was a lot more authoritative, and nothing else would do at longer ranges. Anyway, welcome back Danny!

I shot a .22 short into a water jug. It expanded nicely, but did not exit the jug. Shorts and the CCI .22LR Quiet make about the noise of a pellet gun from a rifle.

The round smaller than the Short was the .22BB. About 2/3 the length of the Short case and the projectile was a round black lead ball. Very quiet and useful for killing mice, rats and snakes in a tent or bunker without upsetting the neighbors. We bought them from a Chinese guy called “Cheap Charlie” in Pleiku. Don’t recall seeing them afterwards in the States.

Sell that CCI batch on GunBroker and you can buy a new car at current prices! :) Would you trust the shortys to stop a zombie?

The short didn’t go “almost as far” in the TP. Essentially, it went through two rolls vs the mini mag’s three = 2/3 as far (approximately). I would guesstimate it went 70% as far into the TP as the mini mag.

Man it sure is great to see you back on the channel Danny! And still as good a shot as ever.

Eye opening video about the shorts. Entertaining and informative, thanks!
