Sorry if I can't explain it well in english, not as insightful as the others in the comments but here are my two cents on Yoongi and Namjoon's relationship from what I've seen. They were the first members to join the group and lived together for the longest time. Everyone brings something unique to the table but I think RM & Suga managed to build what is the essence of BTS in their music, especially through their early years, as they spent the most time writing, producing music/lyrics for the group. To me, they are the cement of BTS (the rapline actually is). They came from the same background (underground rappers) and dealt with the same hate because of that, so they've been through the same hardships from the start. Yes, I believe they weren't that close at first, they said they used to fight a lot when they lived together. But more like music rivals, of course there was some competitiveness between them as they are both rappers and songwriters. I think they even heard about each other in the rap circle before they joined Big Hit. They both have very different personnalities but at the same time they are so similar on so many levels, which is why I can understand the awkwardness between them sometimes. You know sometimes you're too similar to someone it gets a bit awkward because you're also a bit jealous of that person, you quietly look up to them? And as everyone explained, they don't show physical affection and don't express their vulnerability easily except in their music. I think Namjoon has opposite love languages with Yoongi. He likes words of affirmation and Yoongi likes acts of service more. They can both get very deep and real but in very different ways too. Namjoon is very self-aware and Yoongi is more straight-forward, but they both care. Also they said before that even their process in writing music is very different. Their inspiration, creative process and methods are really different (Yoongi would write a song everyday when Namjoon would start with keywords and think about the lyrics first). And yet they both share the same goals, same passion for music, rap, sincerity, similar work ethic, determination, willpower. Two geniuses in a way. I have to admit I was a bit surprised to see this duo doing this show together because it's true we don't see them like that often but I was so happy. Because of all those aspects, personnality-wise, creative-wise and because they handled so much pressure together, their dynamic is different than what you can see between most of the other members. Not to mention the fact that Joon is the leader but Yoongi is older than him. So it kinda adds up to their rivalry in their relationship. I mean that as in healthy competition. They get inspired from each other a lot which challenges them to make better music all the time. I think that's also why they both know their place and give each other some space in the group. They less goof around or get affectionate together but they understand and respect each other on a deeper level (hence their song). Because they both sacrificed so much, they carried the group to get to where they are now, they probably shared the same dreams and the most meaningful moments together. The moment when Suga cried at MAMA 2016 and talked about that is what I believe they truly think of each other. In Festa dinner 2022, when Namjoon talked about his lack of inspiration lately, his feelings about caring deeply about the fans and their music but the "rules of the world" were exhausting him, you could see that Yoongi deeply understood what he meant, made him shed a tear. He's also the one who often says he's the best leader, and truly admire his leardership skills. Thanks for the reaction Max!

just like real sibling relationships, there’s probably some rivalry. plus they are both rappers. But there’s no doubt that they respect, admire and love each other. For me, Suga is exactly like a cat 😂 you need to make the effort and go after the cat to get it to play and show you attention. That’s probably why he has a much more relaxed connection with Jhope and Jimin.

I really enjoyed your reaction. I think it’s fairly obvious that the dynamic between these 2 is not as “easy” as the dynamic between other combinations from BTS. And I don’t think you’ve read too much into it.

It’s always so interesting hearing you talk about Yoongi. I mean Yoongi is such an interesting person, so I could listen to someone talk about him for hours!!! He’s such a reserved person who really chooses his words carefully and you do get this sense that he doesn’t just ‘speak for the sake of speaking’, although, that’s mostly when it comes to more serious conversations that deserve a lot of thought. The rest of the time, he’s either quiet and observant, he’s chatting endlessly about trivia and random things he’s learned about or he’s very playful and ‘mischievous’ (it’s very cute and it hits you hard when this side comes out because it’s less frequent. Although, he has seemed more free and happy in the last couple years so we see this side of him and his smile pop out a lot more! ). But despite his quiet and reserved nature, he’s actually the member I get the most catharsis from whether it’s through his art or just listening to him speak. A big phrase that’s linked to Yoongi in the fandom is “free therapy”. It’s because when you listen to him and watch him, it just feels so grounding and it releases tension. I’d REALLY encourage you to watch some of his solo vlives so you can properly experience this, because it really is very special. You wouldn’t think you’d get this from someone so seemingly quiet and reserved, but actually I think it’s precisely because of the way he cares so much about putting the right energy out and formulating his thoughts properly, that it feels so therapeutic to listen to him. It’s not hard to see why everyone who speaks about Yoongi, including the people he works with and the members always talk about having such huge respect for him… because I respect him, I feel it too. The way he is, the way he conducts himself just gives you this sense that everything he does and says is an occasion in some way, probably because he doesn’t just give blind praise or say things thoughtlessly. When he says or does something, you know how much thought went into it, you know it’s sincere. Joon is also a very interesting person. He’s like a sponge, he takes EVERYTHING in. One of my favourite things in this world is listening to someone talk about the things they have passion for. I don’t care if it’s something I personally find interesting, or put a lot of thought into, I just love love love hearing people be passionate about things, and I get that from Joon. And the best thing is that Joon is also like that. You could talk to him about anything, and you’d never feel ‘embarrassed’ or ‘annoying’ to get animated and overly verbose about any subject because you know he’d feed off your energy and be enthused to hear you talk. I find that that’s quite a rare quality. Most people shut off when you talk about something they’re not interested in, or even if they’re engaged and happy to listen, they’re not gonna get overly hyped about it. But this is not the case with joon! He’s just like me, where the enthusiasm and passion of the person he’s talking to, bleeds into him and in turn he becomes passionate about the conversation and the subject. I think you are right that there is maybe a little wall in some places within their relationship. But I don’t think that’s something to be worried or upset over, for the people that will overanalyse what was said here. And I honestly think some of the things you’re describing are more the fact that they know each other so well, that they don’t really feel like they need to react and respond to every little thing. They’ve probably said a lot of these types of things countless times to each other already. Nevertheless, it’d be silly to think that the perfect relationship exists. I don’t think people should take things the wrong way or feel hurt or betrayed by these little things that you can pick up on in their conversations considering they’ve talked about their love for each other and there’s no reason not to believe them. We have to remember that everyone has their own traits, ways of thinking, experiences and circumstances, and all that comes together to create who you are. The way you interact with others is based off those things, so of course there’s going to be noticeable things that we can pick up on within relationships and communication. Just because we can pick up on little things that they do or don’t do when communicating, doesn’t mean they don’t love each other which I feel like some people would think you’re saying, even though you’re not at all. One thing I don’t agree with is when you say that there may be a little bit of competitiveness between them or that they might feel a little insecure around each other. I don’t think that’s the case. I think they’re just out of the ‘honeymoon phase’ and they’re smooth sailing together which means they don’t necessarily need to gush over each other or have overly deep conversation about everything. I think it’s also just not in either of their nature to be that way. It’s more like they’ve said everything that needs to be said over the past 13 years so unless they’re talking about a new situation that needs careful thought and discussion, they’re not just gonna regurgitate everything they’ve said to each other probably many times before. They’re probably also having a lot of the more deep conversation off camera as well, which I feel like is a big factor. Anyway, this was a great video! I always really love listening to your thoughts and I find it really interesting to see what you pick up from their communication!

Hello Max, as always it was interesting hearing your thoughts but I don't quite agree with a few of them. It's normal to miss a few things when watching a video, and I can't imagine recording your reaction while you're analysing and explaining to us what you think would make it any easier so please don't take this message in a wrong way, I'm just sharing my observations about Namjoon and Yoongi. Sometimes I feel like you have a pre conception of Yoongi (not a bad one but not totally accurate), and don't always caught things that doesn't enter this image. For exemple when they were talking about 2025 you said Suga seemed more cautious about the future than Namjoon. But you had the screen paused on Yoongi saying "When we get together in 2025..." Someone saying when shows a lot of beliefs in my book... As far as empathy... This is just my opinion and I might be completely wrong, but I feel like they have the biggest empathy towards each other, the biggest understanding, respect and admiration. Yoongi has mentioned several times how Namjoon's crying makes him cry. They both started music at the same age, after listening to the same song, they both made a name for themselves in the underground rap when they were still young teenagers, they ended up in the same conpany, in the same band, went throught the same BS as rappers in Idol music, worked side by side without a break and became BTS together... Remember that Yoongi was second to join after Namjoon too, they did spend the most time together out of all the members. If there is no follow up questions it's because at that point they are not needed between them. But maybe a reason why they don't show physical empathy is because they both know neither of them is comfortable with that and they respect each other boundaries, in the same that yoongi knows that Tae needs to be able to manhandle him, lol! Once again it's just the way I see things, I'm not saying this is 100% correct... But they did release a song called Respect together where they said respect "surely belongs to a higher tier than love/A higher tier, perhaps the highest tier/" So anyway, I guess I had some thoughts to share about these two... Welcome to the complex dynamic of namgi! Seems like everyone else had a lot to say about it haha. I guess I’ll just throw in that I agree that their dynamic is not as easily parsed as some others, even though they have known each other the longest! Also it’s fun to consider how many songs they have together, I mean we got 2 different namgi collabs in the year 2020. I love them and I’m looking forward to you getting to see more of them! I am v interested to see how yoongi’s dynamic is with other guests as well! It’ll be an interesting comparison point I think

I think you’re probably right. Didn’t think about it like that at first, but they likely know each other so, so well, that the acknowledgment/praise, etc. is almost unnecessary. I think I missed some stuff here! Lol.

I think they are not as affectionate as the other members; when they are with the other guys, the other person is the one making the effort to breach the gap and get touchy or affectionate but that doesn’t comes ass naturally for them, so when is just the 2 of them they don’t feel the need to go there. I don’t think that means they are less close, in the contrary I think they know each other so much that they don’t need to constantly acknowledge and praise each other, they trust the other would know how they feel; whereas perhaps someone like jimin or v would get upset if they don’t get a positive reaction. Also you have to remember that there’s probably 20 more people in that room with them, so it’s hardly a representation of how their relationship would work normally
