Lewis Hamilton & George Russell (Uncut: 23 Minutes)

First look at this duo! Happy I got to see more of Lewis... and a different relationship with his teammate then what I've seen from other duos in the sport.

just watched a newer Lewis Hamilton interview and I think it would be cool if you could take a look at it too, I feel like Lewis is still pretty laidback in this one (as he usually is) but he seems more open. It's different from the first Lewis video that you did in the sense that instead of looking back at his greatest achievements within F1, he's reflecting back on what a lot of people consider to be one of his toughest year/season in F1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cVKp6amUqg&ab_channel=Channel4Sport

oh and one more thing! Lewis is more distant than the others for sure but for example Lewis was the one who initiated the dinner between all the drivers this year and also i believe paid for it. The dinner was a farewell for Sebastian, i found it interesting how him and Lewis have a good relationship despite being rivals for a long time. One of those non-toxic rivalries for a change xdd its good to see

it probably also helps that they are both from the UK and kinda in a way represent their country together aswell however i am interested to see how their dynamic will be if Mercedes has a chance to go for the championship next season, just to see how competitive they get

Yeah i totally see where people come from with this a lot of the reasons why people dont like him are actually the reasons why i kinda like him xdd i enjoy how much of a celebrity he is, i find it interesting and it’s really good for the sport to have a personality like him

Yeah George and Lewis are an interesting duo. As you said they clearly get along and have a lot of respect for each other, and I think this difficult 2022 season really helped build a solid foundation of honesty and trust for their working relationship as they had to work together to bring the team back up to the top. But even though this is George's first year at Mercedes, he was a reserve driver for the team in years past so he and Lewis working together isn't totally new. Lewis definitely tends to keep most people, especially his teammates, at a distance and I think this is due to past negative experiences (he's had some notorious rivalries with a couple of his teammates). But there's been several moments where we've seen Lewis bridge that space between just co-workers and (somewhat) friends - lots of teasing, and earlier in the year Lewis took George surfing which is one of Lewis' favourite things to do outside of racing. There's also an interesting element of George having idolized Lewis growing up, so I sometimes wonder how that comes into play in their relationship. Super interesting video as always, hope to see more F1 content soon!

As someone who isn’t a Lewis fan, there are some things about him that can be a bit irritating. He seems somewhat preachy and/or sanctimonious at times, for instance. He plays the media game very well and can be a bit crafty. But there are things I like about him as well, like some of his activism, him being a fashion icon, and having broad interests. He is an acquired taste so to speak… He is known for being a bit distant; he got along quite well with his previous teammate but they didn’t have the buddy feel that some of the other teammates have. It’s probably also a generational thing; the teammates as (nearly) friends thing is a pretty new thing among the younger drivers. Lewis is from another generation and at least ten years older than most of the other drivers.

You can check video with Lando, George and Alex in their first year in F1 (2019): "Rookie Of The Year 2019: Norris, Russell or Albon?"

George and Lewis are a great team (I agree with an above commenter that George is talented and shows promise but has a bit to learn yet - he has a habitof punting other cars off the track) but if you want to see George more in his element with friends, look up the Twitch Quartet videos (him, Alex Albon, Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris) on their gaming streams - they did a lot of that during covid lockdowns. Or the 'Rookie of the Year' video with George, Alex and Lando.

This break before the 2023 season sometimes can feel so long so F1 content is much appreciated. I hope they release season 5 of drive to survive sooner than later too cause im excited for that aswell and to see how Netflix portrays this past season :Dd idk how the other f1 fans here are coping with the winter break xdd

Yeah I can say as a Lewis fan and from what I have seen from him, i understand where people come from and why he can be polarizing. I usually hear people say things like he is trying to come across as nice and perfect, he complains too much and does too much. Now there have been times where I feel like Lewis has been in the wrong but I definetly do not think that Lewis is being fake or doing things just to be loved and liked. I feel like he truly enjoys doing all the things he does. The thing is he does A LOT and has accomplished a lot. 7 time world champion, very involved in fashion (the paddock is basically his runway at this point :Dd some people comment a lot on his clothes aswell as him trying to be extra), now also has a film production company, enjoys music (has made some stuff but not released anything) and also involved in charities and social issues. All of this seperates himself from the other drivers a lot cause it sometimes can feel like Lewis is bigger than the sport either in a good or negative way. I really liked what you said about Lewis being his own entity. I honestly feel like thats pretty accurate :Dd im a fan of him cause i find him rly interesting and i admire all the things he does, but i do feel like i cant really relate to him much atleast most of the time. To me he feels like someone who isnt human sometimes idk xddd and i dont mean any of this in a bad way obviously, he is my favourite out of the drivers 😂😂 I like all the drivers for the most part and I do find the others to be more relatable and easily approachable in terms of personality. Now when it comes to Lewis and George as a pairing, they aren’t my favourite team when it comes to others im definetly pretty neutral when it comes to them. George isn’t one of my favourites on track (however i do think he is incredibly talented) and off track i’m just indifferent to him :D I feel like you hit the nail on the head with this pairing being very professional and not maybe as friendly or relaxed as for example Carlos and Lando. This is most likely because well Lewis is obviously an icon in the sport and also older than George, so he has more of a mentor role. Lewis is also really really competitive so being his teammate can never be easy no matter how well you might get along with him :Dd They do respect each other a lot which is nice to see ;)) Lewis and Valtteri are still my favourite team when it comes to Lewis. Not that they were THAT friendly either but idk there was a lot of respect and professionalism there and even after the 5 years they spent as a team, we still see them interact with each other this past year. It isn’t easy to get close to Lewis so I do feel like it says a lot about them as a team if they still interact and stuff 😊😊 I enjoyed this very much thank you! For more Lewis content (since I feel like he is an interesting one to analyze) This one which has been requested before, with Lewis sitting down with his old teammate Heikki: https://youtu.be/_uBi-FWlYuI (this one felt rly wholesome to me and out of all the interviews i have seen he seemed felt the most relaxed and comfortable to me, while also being serious) and then this recent one where he reflects on this past 2022 season: https://youtu.be/0cVKp6amUqg Glad to be on this journey with you 💜💜
