Episode 684: Dangerous Mind

Comments

More on topic however… It has always just, blown me away. And boggled my mind, when I see an 8, 9, 10 year old (Just pick an age that would VERY CLEARLY BE A CHILD!!!!!!) that has done something very bad, and very stupid. And then? They will be charged as an adult! What mental fucking gymnastics does one have to do to ever believe that is a thing that should even exist? Let alone constantly be used as if it’s nothing? We recognize that children make horrible decisions on the regular. And at the same time many states and prosecutors have ZERO issue with throwing the book at a VERY CLEARLY, A CHILD. And charging them as an adult. I will never understand this. Other than the fact that you guys hit the nail on the head a while back when you said, “We are a vengeance based nation with a vengeance based legal system. It’s about vengeance and retribution. And we give zero fucks about actually rehabilitating people. We treat people like garbage in this country. One mistake? And we throw your life away like a piece of trash.” Now, that’s not an exact quote. But you have said all those things. And sadly? They all fit. We really need to change a lot of things about how this nation is run. It’s scary how shitty things are really getting. Because it’s not behind the scenes with it all anymore. It’s so rampant? All these things that need fixing just can’t be shooshed away under a rug somewhere any longer. Buckle in guys…. This country is going to be on a wild ride for the foreseeable future.

All submachine guns use pistol ammo. That’s what a sub machine gun is. With very few exceptions. Unless you take something like the P90, which had its own custom ammo designed specifically for that gun. 5.7x28 That looks like a small rifle cartridge but it isn’t anywhere near as powerful and serves a very specific purpose. Many guns can be thought of as tools. I always thought it was weird when people had more than one or two guns. Then you understand and learn about them and you realize they’re like a screwdriver, hammer, drill, etc. They all have a different use and serve a different purpose. And are a tools in a box to be used when the time is right for that specific job. I know I’ll probably catch shit for talking about anything gun here. But hey, “The more you know…”

IMO it is not about age but maturity. The problem is that we can define age but how do you define maturity in a quantitative way? We can all cite examples of "adults" who have not matured in some to many situations. But, since the law deals with absolutes it needs an absolute value to sentence their revenge against.

I'm a social worker and in my field we are taught and see how trauma too can affect, delay, or even halt a person's maturity and decision making. It's disheartening to see the justice system further penalizing people and youth from adverse backgrounds that may be suffering from systemic inequity and trauma by throwing them away forever in prison

In Germany we have a special Juvenile criminal law that is a special criminal law and a special criminal procedure law for young offenders who, at the time of their offense, are in the transitional stage between childhood and adulthood. The court has to decide (with the help of experts!) which law should be applied for someone of the age 18-20. Basis for the decision is a person’s maternity. Kids under 14 are always criminally immature.
