Their argument is that in the Australian constitution we have a connection to the British royalty and so the Queen/king needs to specifically sign off on every law (they don't, that's not what the constitution says) and because we have had a Governor General (the guy hired to act on behalf of the royalty) do all that basically forever, all laws are invalid and they don't have to listen to police, obey laws or pay taxes.

It's always a treat when Mike is on. Also, being an expat in the UK, I understood the entire entirely-British paragraph. It does indeed not translate to anything in American consciousness, except maybe small-town middle America.
