Also kudos to Melissa for Norm's eyes (in every panel but especially the first one), and how beautifully she is rendering the weight changes of pregnancy in Bridget.

The cartoonist Lynn Johnston experienced this with her first child, and put it thusly: "Turns out you have a high-octane rugrat. Surprise!"
My husband was such a child. Apparently he was crawling at 4 months, and by 7 months had figured out he could drag a lightweight wicker chair to the kitchen counter so he could climb it and get onto the counter to get the cookies in the upper cabinet.
Unsurprisingly he was diagnosed with acute ADHD by middle school. His mom homeschooled him for awhile in early elementary, and to help him burn off energy so he could concentrate, she sent him out to run laps around the house. :-D He had fond memories of this, and then when we were engaged he met a young cousin of his who everyone said was a ringer for him at the same age, and it dawned on him how utterly necessary that lap-running had been.
