Workbench update: Pocket-Dungeons

As some of you might have seen the other day, we’re revamping the Pocket-Dungeons rules for the current editon of Pocket-Tactics. Something that’s pretty important to me this go around is making sure the games are fully compatible. Before, Pocket-Dungeons stood alone as it’s own thing. And while I do want it to do that as well, I’d love for players to be able to pull elements from Pocket-Tactics (enemies, tiles, et cetera) and incorporate them into custom scenarios. And same vice versa.

While we haven’t done much with the GRIP system, we took a lot we liked from that experience and are moving it forward into Pocket-Dungeons and OpenTactics. The swappable card-based “character sheet” experience has really played well at our table. The idea that you can create a custom character using whatever miniature you like and use it as a hero in Pocket-Dungeons or Pocket-Tactics is really appealing to me. Lots of opportunity for doing integrated campaigns that switch between dungeon (or wilderness) crawls and overlap mass battles or skirmishes.

Our first play test is going down on Monday night, and I’m hoping to have a solid core rules set for Pocket-Dungeons that we can share early with patrons (Games backers) and Discord soon (with an eye on releasing the core set for free to the community at some point).

Anyway, just sharing what I’m working on. We’ll be updating regularly on Discord as we go through the process. More here soon too,

- Dutchmogul
